AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Degreaser

AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Degreaser (ADG) is a fast-acting, citrus-based aerosol solvent built for the toughest oil, grease, tar and adhesive jobs in shops, garages, fleets, on farms and around powersports equipment. Powerful solvents attack petroleum-based grime on a molecular level to loosen its hold on metal, concrete, and other surfaces, while a low-VOC, non-foaming formula keeps the product practical for indoor maintenance bays and frequent industrial cleaning tasks.

Fast-acting citrus solvent chemistry

Heavy-Duty Degreaser is formulated with powerful, fast-acting solvents that dissolve oil, tar, and grime on contact. The active citrus formula penetrates baked-on petroleum residue, loosens its grip on the underlying surface and wipes or rinses away cleanly, leaving a clean citrus scent rather than a harsh chemical odor in the work area.

Removes sticky residue and adhesives

Beyond bulk grease, the solvent system targets sticky residue, label adhesive, gum, tape gunk, road tar, and other gummy contaminants that ordinary detergents leave behind. A short dwell time of one to two minutes allows the active ingredients to break the adhesive bond before scraping or wiping, which makes the product useful for prepping metal parts, shop tools, equipment housings and storage racks for paint, decals, or rebuild work.

The same chemistry handles the mixed-soil situations common in automotive bays and powersports shops, where adhesive overspray, undercoating drips, chain lube and gear grease often sit on the same panel or bracket. One application typically lifts the layered contaminants together rather than requiring a separate cleaner for each soil class.

Low-VOC, non-foaming formula

The low-VOC formulation reduces airborne solvent vapor compared with traditional industrial degreasers, supporting use in enclosed maintenance bays where ventilation is limited. A non-foaming spray pattern keeps the product on the soiled surface instead of running off as foam, which improves dwell time on vertical surfaces such as engine blocks, machine guards, gear cases, and steel framing.

Tough on petroleum grime, broad surface flexibility

Heavy-Duty Degreaser is engineered for metal surfaces and oil-stained concrete, the two surface classes that absorb and hold the heaviest petroleum loads in shop, fleet, and agricultural environments. It also performs on adhesive-coated surfaces, heavy-duty equipment, gears and chains, powersports equipment and farm equipment, giving a single aerosol can broad coverage across mixed maintenance tasks instead of forcing multiple specialty cleaners on the shelf.

Because the solvents are fast-acting, the product is well suited to high-throughput maintenance routines where parts need to come clean quickly, get rinsed or wiped, and go back into service. That makes it a practical fit for fleet wash bays, equipment dealerships, agricultural operations, and seasonal powersports tear-down work.

Directions for use

Spray Heavy-Duty Degreaser directly onto the dirty surface and allow the product to penetrate the grime for one to two minutes. Wipe off overspray, then wipe the cleaned area with a clean rag or flush the surface with water to remove loosened contaminants. Repeat as necessary on heavy soils. Test on a small area before using on rubber, plastic, paint or sensitive surfaces, do not let the product soak on painted surfaces, and do not apply while equipment is running.

Recommended applications and use

Heavy-Duty Degreaser fits the cleaning tasks that mild kitchen-grade or all-purpose cleaners cannot handle, especially the petroleum-loaded surfaces that build up in service bays, on the shop floor and around running gear. The product is designed for the following surface and equipment categories:

  • Disappointed

I was hoping this would remove oil stains from a car oil drip on concrete under the carport. It wasn’t a big area or very badly stained but it didn’t work.

  • Impressive on adhesive removal

This works better than expected on removing adhesive residue and the citrus (orange) scent is easier to take than the solvent smell of other solvents. You need to let it soak for a few minutes to do its magic and then scrape or wipe off the adhesive. Sometimes, multiple applications are required for heavy adhesive, but it would be the same with any other solvent. Make sure to wear gloves as it does de-fat the skin, and your hands will end up dry. This will be my go-to for adhesive removal in the future. I have not tried it as a degreaser yet, but I assume it will do it the job.

Frequently asked questions

What is AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Degreaser used for?

Heavy-Duty Degreaser is a fast-acting citrus-based aerosol solvent for cleaning oil, tar, grease, sticky residue and adhesives off metal surfaces, oil-stained concrete, heavy-duty equipment, gears and chains, powersports equipment and farm equipment. It targets the heavy petroleum-based grime that ordinary all-purpose cleaners cannot break down.

How is Heavy-Duty Degreaser used?

Spray onto the dirty surface, allow the product to penetrate for one to two minutes, wipe off overspray, then wipe with a clean rag or flush with water to remove loosened contaminants. Repeat as necessary for heavy soils. Always test on a small area before using on rubber, plastic, paint or other sensitive surfaces, and do not let the product soak on painted surfaces.

Is Heavy-Duty Degreaser low-VOC?

Yes. Heavy-Duty Degreaser is formulated as a low-VOC product, which reduces airborne solvent vapor compared with traditional industrial degreasers and supports use in enclosed shop areas with limited ventilation.

Can Heavy-Duty Degreaser be used on a running engine?

No. Heavy-Duty Degreaser should not be applied while equipment is running. Shut the equipment off, allow hot surfaces to cool to a safe handling temperature, then spray, dwell, and wipe or rinse off contaminants before restarting.

Will Heavy-Duty Degreaser remove oil stains from concrete?

Heavy-Duty Degreaser is recommended for oil-stained concrete and dissolves the petroleum bond that holds the stain in place. Heavily set-in stains on porous concrete may require multiple applications and longer dwell time, with agitation by stiff brush and a water rinse between rounds.

Is the product safe for painted surfaces and plastics?

Test Heavy-Duty Degreaser on a small, inconspicuous area before applying to rubber, plastic, paint, or other sensitive surfaces. Do not let the product soak on painted surfaces. When the test area shows no discoloration or softening, proceed with brief dwell times and prompt wipe-off rather than extended soaks.

Where is Heavy-Duty Degreaser sold?

AMSOIL Heavy-Duty Degreaser is sold for the United States market in 15-ounce spray cans, individually or as a case of twelve. The product is not for sale in Canada. Aerosol disposal varies by region, so follow all federal, state, provincial, and local regulations when discarding contents or empty containers.
