AMSOIL Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant

AMSOIL Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant (PSAF) is an ethylene glycol 50/50 pre-mix engine coolant formulated for liquid-cooled powersports equipment, including on-road and off-road motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs, snowmobiles, outboard motors, and personal watercraft. The extended-life chemistry is borate-, nitrite-, phosphate-, and 2EH-free, and the formula is optimized for the increased aluminum content found in modern powersports cooling systems.

Heat transfer and boil-over protection

Hot-running, high-revving powersports engines push coolant temperatures higher than most automotive cooling systems, especially in slow-speed trail use, deep snow, watercraft pulls, and stop-and-go off-road riding. The ethylene-glycol formulation delivers consistent heat transfer to keep cylinder heads, blocks, and water jackets within tolerance, and boil-over protection extends up to 226 degrees F (108 degrees C) under riding conditions where airflow drops and load climbs.

Aluminum-friendly corrosion control

Powersports cooling systems use aluminum heads, blocks, water pumps, and radiators in proportions that conventional automotive coolant packages were not designed to protect. The inhibitor system in Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant is built around aluminum, with additional protection for copper and bronze/brass alloys and most common hose, gasket, and seal materials. Robust anti-corrosion additives suppress scale, deposits, and the corrosion mechanisms that would otherwise narrow coolant passages, foul water-pump impellers, and shorten radiator life.

Long-life chemistry, five-year service interval

Conventional powersports coolants use inhibitor packages that deplete quickly under the thermal stress of small-displacement, high-rpm engines, which forces frequent flush-and-fill service. The extended-life chemistry in Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant supports up to five years of all-season protection in covered powersports applications, and the borate-, nitrite-, and phosphate-free formula avoids the inhibitor dropout and scaling problems associated with older silicate and phosphate technologies.

Freeze protection for cold-climate use

All-season protection extends to freeze conditions down to -34 degrees F (-37 degrees C), which covers snowmobile storage and cold-soak starts, ATV and UTV winter use in northern climates, and outboard and personal-watercraft layup in regions where below-freezing temperatures reach the cooling system. The 50/50 pre-mix uses high-purity water, so installed coolant goes in at the rated freeze and boil-over points without dilution from hard or unfiltered tap water.

Coolant compatibility and top-off

Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant is compatible with most other coolants already in service, which makes top-off in the field practical when a full flush is not possible. Mixing different coolant chemistries can make freeze-point prediction unreliable, however, so a complete cooling-system flush at the next convenient service interval is recommended after any unavoidable cross-product top-off. The formula is also compatible with the gaskets and hoses used in powersports cooling systems and helps prevent the deterioration and leak paths that develop when an incompatible coolant attacks elastomers.

Recommended applications and service intervals

Use Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant in liquid-cooled powersports applications that call for an ethylene-glycol 50/50 pre-mix engine coolant. The formula meets industry coolant specifications used by the powersports OEMs and many automotive and heavy-duty engine builders.

Do not add water to the pre-mix and do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot. Used antifreeze is hazardous and must be cleaned up and disposed of in accordance with local regulations. Aftermarket coolant additives, water-wetter products, and supplemental coolant additives are not required and should not be added to a system charged with this pre-mix.

Frequently asked questions

Can automotive antifreeze be used in a snowmobile, ATV, UTV, motorcycle, or jet ski?

Most passenger-car coolant inhibitor packages are not optimized for the increased aluminum content found in powersports cooling systems, and they often arrive only in gallon containers that overshoot the small capacity of a sled, quad, or watercraft. Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant is formulated and packaged for powersports equipment, with an aluminum-friendly inhibitor system, quart-sized bottles, and 50/50 pre-mix delivery that matches typical fill volumes.

Is the product pre-mixed or a concentrate?

Powersports Antifreeze and Coolant ships as a finished 50/50 pre-mix with high-purity water. Adding tap water, distilled water, or additional concentrate dilutes the inhibitor charge and shifts the freeze and boil-over points, so the product should be installed as supplied.

How long can the coolant stay in service before a flush?

The extended-life chemistry supports all-season protection for up to five years in covered powersports applications. Coolant level should be checked and maintained at every oil-change interval, and the owner manual should be consulted for any application-specific top-off or service guidance.

Will it mix with the coolant already in the system?

The formula is compatible with most other coolants currently in service, which makes field top-off practical. Mixing chemistries makes freeze-point prediction unreliable, so a complete cooling-system flush at the next convenient service interval is recommended after any unavoidable cross-product top-off.

What freeze and boil-over protection does it deliver?

Boil-over protection extends up to 226 degrees F (108 degrees C), which covers hot-weather trail riding, watercraft load conditions, and slow-speed deep-snow operation. Freeze protection extends to -34 degrees F (-37 degrees C), which covers snowmobile cold-soak starts, winter ATV and UTV use, and cold-storage layup of outboards and personal watercraft.

Does the formula contain phosphate, nitrite, borate, or 2EH?

No. The extended-life chemistry is borate-, nitrite-, phosphate-, and 2EH-free, which avoids the scaling, inhibitor dropout, and elastomer attack issues associated with older silicate and phosphate-heavy coolant technologies. The formula is also safe for the copper, brass, bronze, and aluminum metallurgy used across powersports cooling systems.

Does running this coolant affect the equipment manufacturer warranty?

No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and coolants in accordance with the equipment manufacturer service intervals does not void factory warranties. Confirm the required coolant specification through the owner manual or the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide before draining and refilling, and review the broader product family on the AMSOIL Coolant Guide.
