AMSOIL Propylene Glycol Antifreeze and Engine Coolant (ANT) is a propylene glycol-based hybrid organic acid (HOAT) coolant concentrate engineered to exceed original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and ASTM D3306 requirements. The formula serves owners who need a propylene glycol coolant in place of conventional ethylene glycol formulations across passenger cars, light trucks, RVs, marine engines, stationary generators, and heavy-duty equipment. Mixed 50/50 with distilled or high-quality water, the coolant delivers freeze protection down to -34 degrees F (-36 degrees C) and boil-over protection up to 265 degrees F (129 degrees C) when paired with a 15-psi radiator cap.

Propylene glycol HOAT chemistry

The base fluid is propylene glycol rather than the ethylene glycol used in most conventional automotive coolants, paired with a proprietary hybrid organic acid (HOAT) inhibitor system. Propylene glycol is the glycol family commonly chosen for RV plumbing, marine engines, and other environments where a different acute exposure profile is preferred. The HOAT additive package is fully charged at fill, so no separate supplemental coolant additives (SCAs), nitrite extenders, or recharging are required between scheduled drain and refills. Corrosion and erosion protection across mixed metals

Cooling systems combine aluminum heads and water pumps with cast-iron blocks, copper and brass radiator and heater cores, lead-tin solder joints, and steel hardware. Independent testing shows the formula achieves nearly perfect scores in ASTM corrosion and erosion testing on cast aluminum cylinder heads, steel, copper, solder, brass, and cast iron and aluminum water pumps. The proprietary organic acids form a protective layer on metal components and the formulation greatly surpasses standards for metallic corrosion and erosion.

Anti-scale design

The formula omits the phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, silicate, borate, and amine compounds responsible for almost all scaling issues in conventional antifreeze and coolants. Those compounds commonly react with calcium and magnesium in tap water to form precipitates that adhere to metal surfaces and create scale and corrosion, and they can also drop out when coolant pH drifts or incompatible products are mixed. Do not remove the radiator cap when the engine is hot, and dispose of used antifreeze and coolant per local regulations. Outside the United States and Canada, follow the engine and equipment manufacturer cooling-system recommendation.
