AMSOIL Firearm Cleaner and Protectant

AMSOIL Firearm Cleaner and Protectant (FCP) is a dedicated bore, chamber, and action solvent built to remove powder residue, carbon fouling, and other shooting byproducts from rifles, handguns, shotguns, and black powder guns. The formula is the cleaning half of a two-step system, paired with AMSOIL Synthetic Firearm Lubricant for the lubrication step, instead of a single all-in-one product that compromises on cleaning power, lubrication, or corrosion control. It is built for hunters, recreational shooters, competitive shooters, and collectors who store firearms long-term and need them to function on the first trigger pull.

Removes powder residue and fouling from every firearm surface

Firearm Cleaner and Protectant penetrates deep into hard-to-reach components, where carbon, powder residue, and other shooting byproducts collect and cause sluggish actions, light strikes, and feeding issues. Range testing on a shotgun barrel after 100 rounds showed Firearm Cleaner removed the powder residue and left a clean, smooth bore. The same penetrating action reaches into bolts, firing pin channels, gas systems, hinge points, and trigger groups, where solid-stick lubricants and one-step CLPs commonly leave residue behind.

The result on the bench and in the field is fewer misfires, more reliable cycling, and better long-term accuracy across rifles, handguns, shotguns, and black powder guns. Cleaner bores also extend the working life of barrels, chambers, and high-precision moving parts.

Long-term corrosion protection for stored firearms

Stored firearms see humidity swings, salt-laden air on coastal hunts, condensation from cold-to-warm temperature changes, and rain or snow exposure on multi-day field trips. Firearm Cleaner and Protectant lays down a protective film on cleaned metal surfaces that carried treated test coupons through the Humidity Test (ASTM D1748) and the Salt Fog Test (ASTM B117) without visible corrosion. A leading competitor's product showed corrosion on the same panels under the same conditions.

That same film helps preserve bluing, parkerized finish, and resale value on heirloom and collectible firearms during long off-season storage in safes, cases, and gun rooms. A light wipedown with a lint-free cloth dampened with the cleaner before storage refreshes the protective layer.

Safe on every common firearm material

The solvent system is balanced to clean every metal, wood, composite, and rubber surface commonly found on firearms without softening, hazing, or whitening. The same bottle handles a duty pistol with a polymer frame, a wood-stocked deer rifle, a shotgun with composite furniture, and a black powder rifle with metal hardware. There is no need to keep separate solvents for polymer, wood, and finish work, which simplifies the cleaning kit on the bench and on the road.

Designed to pair with AMSOIL Synthetic Firearm Lubricant

Cleaning and lubrication are separate jobs, and Firearm Cleaner and Protectant is intentionally built as the first step. Once the bore, chamber, and action are clean, AMSOIL Synthetic Firearm Lubricant (product codes FLPBA and FLPSC) goes on next to lubricate barrels, bolts, firing pins, springs, and trigger mechanisms per the firearm manufacturer's recommendations. The two-product system delivers stronger cleaning and stronger lubrication than single-bottle CLPs that compromise both jobs in the name of convenience.

Aerosol coverage or bottle precision

Firearm Cleaner and Protectant ships in a 5 oz spray can for fast, hands-free coverage of bores, actions, and exterior surfaces, and in an 8 oz bottle for patch, brush, and detail-cleaning work on barrels, chambers, and trigger groups. Both formats use the same dual-action chemistry that cleans on contact and leaves the protective film in place after the residue is wiped off.

Recommended applications and service intervals

Use Firearm Cleaner and Protectant for routine cleaning after every range session, after any hunting trip, and any time a firearm has been exposed to rain, snow, mud, salt spray, or extended storage. Apply to a cleaning patch or directly to the area being cleaned, then wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth. Reapply and follow with a bore brush as necessary on heavily fouled barrels and chambers, especially after long strings on shotgun and black powder guns where powder residue accumulates fastest.

Always confirm the firearm is unloaded before any cleaning work, and shake the bottle or spray can well before use. After cleaning, follow with AMSOIL Synthetic Firearm Lubricant on barrels, bolts, firing pins, springs, and trigger mechanisms, then apply a thin film to exterior metal surfaces. Aerosol cans may have different disposal requirements than other wastes; dispose of contents and container per all federal, state or provincial, and local regulations.

Frequently asked questions

What does AMSOIL Firearm Cleaner and Protectant remove?

Firearm Cleaner and Protectant penetrates and removes powder residue, carbon fouling, and other shooting byproducts from bores, chambers, actions, bolts, hinges, and other hard-to-reach components on rifles, handguns, shotguns, and black powder guns. Range testing on a shotgun barrel after 100 rounds showed it removed the powder residue and left a clean, smooth bore.

Is Firearm Cleaner and Protectant safe on polymer frames and wood stocks?

Yes. The formula is safe to use on all metals, woods, composites, and rubbers commonly found on firearms, which covers polymer frames, wood stocks, composite furniture, and rubber grip inserts without softening, hazing, or whitening the surface.

Does this product also protect against corrosion?

Yes. Firearm Cleaner and Protectant left treated surfaces with no visible corrosion in the Humidity Test (ASTM D1748) and the Salt Fog Test (ASTM B117), while a leading competitor's product showed corrosion on the same coupons under the same test conditions.

Do shooters still need a separate firearm lubricant?

Yes. Firearm Cleaner and Protectant is the cleaning step. Pair it with AMSOIL Synthetic Firearm Lubricant (FLPBA, FLPSC) for the lubrication step on barrels, bolts, firing pins, springs, and trigger mechanisms. The two-product system avoids the cleaning and lubrication compromises of all-in-one solvents.

Where can Firearm Cleaner and Protectant be shipped?

Firearm Cleaner is sold in the United States. It is not available in Canada, and the 5 oz spray can is not available in California. The 8 oz bottle ships throughout the rest of the United States in single-unit and case-of-12 sizes.

How should the cleaner be applied?

After confirming the firearm is unloaded, shake the bottle or spray can well, then apply Firearm Cleaner and Protectant onto a cleaning patch or directly to the area being cleaned. Wipe with a clean, lint-free cloth, and reapply and follow with a bore brush as necessary on heavily fouled barrels and chambers. For storage, wipe surfaces with a lint-free cloth dampened with the cleaner before the firearm goes back in the safe.

Does using AMSOIL firearm products void a manufacturer warranty?

No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants and cleaners does not void a firearm manufacturer warranty, and AMSOIL Firearm Cleaner and Protectant is backed by the AMSOIL Limited Liability Warranty.
