AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean Fuel Additive

AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean (ADF/ADFP) is a concentrated diesel detergent fuel additive built to clean modern high-pressure common-rail injectors and traditional rotary-pump and HEUI systems. The formula targets internal diesel injector deposits and carbonaceous nozzle deposits, restores horsepower and operability, and adds back the lubricity ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel cannot provide on its own. It is engineered for owners and fleet operators running on-road, off-road, and marine diesel engines that need to keep injection equipment, fuel pumps, and DPF hardware working as designed.

Cleans internal diesel injector deposits and traditional carbon

In high-pressure common-rail systems, injection pressures can reach 30,000 psi and higher to atomize fuel into the fine mist needed for efficient combustion, increased power, and lower emissions. Holding those pressures requires injector clearances as tight as 1 to 3 microns, finer than a human hair at 70 to 100 microns. Even minimal internal diesel injector deposits on the pintle or other components can cause sticking and seizure, reducing power, fuel economy, and operability. Diesel Injector Clean uses advanced detergent chemistry that targets both internal diesel injector deposits in modern common-rail engines and traditional carbonaceous deposits at the injector nozzle, helping to restore spray pattern and operability toward like-new condition.

Restores power and improves fuel economy up to 8 percent

Fuel injector deposits interrupt the spray pattern, causing poor atomization, incomplete combustion, smoke, and excessive emissions. By keeping injector tips and pintles clean, Diesel Injector Clean restores power and torque and helps recover fuel economy lost to deposit fouling, with fuel-economy improvement of up to 8 percent. With regular use in every tank, acceleration is improved and fuel savings can offset the cost of treatment.

Adds back lost ULSD lubricity (ASTM D6079 wear-scar)

Ultra-low-sulfur diesel fuel offers significantly less lubricity than legacy high-sulfur fuel, a critical property for controlling wear in fuel pumps and injectors. The ASTM D975 diesel fuel standard specifies a wear scar below 520 microns in ASTM D6079 testing, while the Engine Manufacturers Association calls for a wear scar below 460 microns. In ASTM D6079 testing of pump-grade diesel from nine U.S. states, Diesel Injector Clean reduced average wear-scar diameter from a 484 to 551 micron baseline to a treated range of 327 to 397 microns, inside the EMA target.

Reduces soot loading and crankcase oil dilution

Cleaner injectors and better-sealing piston rings improve combustion completeness, which lowers soot generation and limits the soot that reaches the crankcase. Lower crankcase soot reduces soot-related wear and the viscosity increase that aged engine oil typically experiences in modern diesels.

Separates fuel and water; alcohol-free

Diesel Injector Clean is alcohol-free and protects the fuel system against water contamination by helping prevent fuel and water emulsions, allowing water-separating filters to remove water before it reaches the injectors and causes corrosion. Water can be drained from the filter and water-separator more easily, supporting drivability and reducing the risk of injector damage from water in the fuel.

Extends fuel-filter life and prolongs DPF and EGR cycles

Modern diesels run hot, raising the temperature of fuel returned to the tank and producing carbonaceous deposits that collect in the fuel filter, plug it, and shorten service life. Diesel Injector Clean protects against those deposits and extends fuel-filter service life. By improving combustion completeness and reducing soot output, regular treatment also helps prolong the time between EGR and DPF regeneration events.

Recommended applications and treat rates

Diesel Injector Clean (ADF/ADFP) is recommended for all heavy- and light-duty, on- or off-road, and marine diesel engines, including high-pressure common-rail, HEUI, and traditional rotary-pump designs. It is compatible with all types of exhaust emission systems, including diesel particulate filters. For initial treatment of fouled equipment, follow the Clean-Up dose; for ongoing protection, use the Maintenance dose with every tank of fuel.

Diesel Injector Clean does not replace engine oil and is not a cetane improver or anti-gel additive. Match the engine to the correct heavy-duty diesel oil and the right cold-weather or cetane treatment using the linked guides below before adding fuel additives.

  • Improved Performance on my 2020 RAM

Our 2020 RAM Limited was slowly becoming less fuel efficient. We were in the Mid teens for fuel mpg lately! A customer recommended your brand. So, I tried it last week and now my fuel economy has gone back up to the low 20 mpg range once more!

Frequently asked questions

How does AMSOIL Diesel Injector Clean work?

Diesel Injector Clean uses concentrated detergent chemistry to lift internal diesel injector deposits in high-pressure common-rail engines and traditional carbonaceous deposits at the nozzle and pintle. With injector tips clean, spray patterns return to design, atomization improves, and combustion is more complete, restoring power and operability while added lubricity helps control fuel-pump and injector wear.

How often should diesel injector cleaner be used in the tank?

For continuous protection against fuel-pump wear, injector wear, and injector deposits, treat every tank at the Maintenance dose. For initial cleanup of fouled injectors, use the Clean-Up dose for the first treatment and then drop back to Maintenance. Adding Diesel Injector Clean to fuel before seasonal storage helps keep the fuel system clean during downtime.

How much Diesel Injector Clean treats a tank of diesel fuel?

For 16-ounce, 64-ounce, and larger sizes, the Clean-Up rate is 2 ounces per 5 gallons of fuel and the Maintenance rate is 1 ounce per 5 gallons of fuel, scaling to 32 and 16 ounces per 80 gallons. The 8-ounce bottle is pre-measured: two bottles for cleanup or one bottle for maintenance treats up to 20 gallons of diesel fuel.

Is Diesel Injector Clean safe with DPFs and modern emissions hardware?

Yes. The formula is compatible with all types of exhaust emission systems, including diesel particulate filters. By improving combustion completeness and reducing soot output, regular treatment also helps prolong the time between EGR and DPF regeneration events on modern diesels.

Can Diesel Injector Clean be used with biodiesel blends?

Yes. Diesel Injector Clean is safe for use in all diesel fuels, including biodiesel blends. It is alcohol-free and protects the fuel system against water contamination by helping prevent fuel and water emulsions so water-separating filters can remove water before it reaches the injectors.

How is Diesel Injector Clean different from AMSOIL Diesel Cetane Boost and Diesel Cold Flow?

Diesel Injector Clean is the standalone detergent and lubricity treatment: it cleans injectors, restores power, and adds back ULSD lubricity. AMSOIL Diesel Cetane Boost raises the cetane number of diesel fuel for easier starting and improved combustion. AMSOIL Diesel Cold Flow lowers the cold filter plugging point for cold-weather operation. The three additives are compatible and can be used together when cleaning, cetane, and cold-flow benefits are all needed.

Will Diesel Injector Clean restore lost power and fuel economy?

Power and fuel economy losses caused by deposit-fouled injectors can be recovered with regular treatment. Cleaner injector tips restore spray pattern and atomization, supporting more complete combustion, improved acceleration, and fuel-economy improvement of up to 8 percent. Net savings on fuel can offset the cost of treatment over time.
