AMSOIL SIROCCO® ISO-32/46 Compressor Oil
AMSOIL SIROCCO Synthetic Compressor Oil is an ester-based synthetic fluid engineered for single- and multi-stage rotary screw compressors and single-stage vacuum pumps that specify either an ISO 32 or ISO 46 grade. The formula protects against wear, oxidation, foam, and rust while supporting a service life of up to 8,000 hours under suitable operating conditions, sound maintenance practices, and routine oil analysis every 1,000 hours.
Premium synthetic ester base chemistry
SIROCCO is formulated with premium synthetic esters and a non-detergent additive system, a chemistry that delivers strong lubricity and high thermal conductivity. The result is a fluid that carries heat away from rotors, bearings, and seal surfaces so the compressor runs cooler and consumes less energy under load. The lubricity package keeps a stable film on the screw element, so metal contact stays low even in hot, hard-duty cycles.
Wear and varnish control for long airend life
The ester base resists thermal and oxidative breakdown, the two mechanisms that drive sludge, carbon, and varnish formation inside compressor airends, separators, and oil galleries. Four-Ball Wear performance, measured at 40 kg, 1200 rpm, and 75°C per ASTM D4172, returns a 0.45 mm scar, indicating a robust load-carrying film for bearings and rotor surfaces. Cleaner internals translate into longer separator life, fewer unplanned filter changes, and lower lifetime cost per hour of compressor operation.
Foam control and demulsibility
Compressor airends move large volumes of humid air across hot oil, so foaming and water ingress are the two failure modes that quietly shorten oil life. SIROCCO resists foaming for consistent lubrication and pressure delivery, and it readily separates from condensate. ASTM D1401 demulsibility returns 40/40/0 in 25 minutes, meaning water drops out cleanly so it can be drained from the reservoir rather than emulsifying into the oil. After installation, shut the compressor down for 15 minutes every 24 hours to allow water to settle, then drain as needed based on the operating environment.
High-temperature and cold-temperature performance
A flash point of 252°C (486°F), fire point of 280°C (536°F), and high auto-ignition characteristics give SIROCCO meaningful headroom over typical petroleum compressor oils in hot ambient or hard-duty service. The fluid is not classified as non-flammable, but the high flash and fire points reduce fire risk in high-temperature environments. On the cold end, a pour point of -43°C (-45°F) and the absence of paraffinic wax preserve cold-flow performance, supporting easier cold starts and faster startup protection in subzero shop and outdoor installations.
Drop-in replacement for Sullair Sullube and other PAG fluids
SIROCCO is recommended as a replacement for other polyalkylene glycol (PAG) compressor oils and coolants, including Sullair Sullube. It is compatible with petroleum oils and most synthetic oils, plus common compressor process gases including nitrogen, hydrogen, helium, carbon monoxide, dry carbon dioxide, ethylene, methane, propane, butane, propylene, butylene, natural gas, benzene, butadiene, dry hydrogen sulfide, synthetic gas, and sulfur dioxide. Recommended seal materials include high-nitrile Buna-N (>36% nitrile), Teflon, and Viton. Recommended paints are epoxy, oil-resistant alkyd, and two-part urethane. Recommended plastics are Celcon, Delrin, nylon, and PBT.
Recommended applications and service intervals
Use SIROCCO in single- and multi-stage rotary screw compressors and single-stage vacuum pumps that specify an ISO 32 or ISO 46 compressor oil. The fluid has a high level of solvency and may release deposits left in the system, so the changeover procedure matters. Drain the old oil thoroughly, change the filters, and follow the equipment manufacturer's flush instructions to remove residue before installing SIROCCO. Verify the correct viscosity and fill volume against the equipment service literature and the compressor oil guide before placing an order.
- Normal service: up to 8,000 hours of service life is possible when operating conditions and maintenance allow, with oil analysis every 1,000 hours used to confirm fluid condition.
- First 500 hours after a changeover: check filters and oil/air separators regularly and replace as necessary while residual deposits flush out of the system.
- Wet or humid installations: shut the compressor down for 15 minutes every 24 hours so condensate can settle, then drain water from the reservoir based on the volume removed.
- Not recommended as a replacement for or for use with Sullair Sullube 24 KT silicone-based compressor oil, and not recommended for refrigeration or breathing air compressors.
Pair SIROCCO with the original equipment oil filter and oil/air separator, or a verified cross-reference for the airend. Do not blend SIROCCO with aftermarket compressor additives or oil supplements; the ester base and additive package are matched and are not designed to be modified in the field. For installations outside US and Canada, follow local AMSOIL distributor guidance.

Frequently asked questions
What is AMSOIL SIROCCO Compressor Oil made of?
SIROCCO is formulated with premium synthetic esters and a non-detergent additive system. The ester base provides high thermal conductivity, strong lubricity, and natural resistance to oxidation, sludge, carbon, and varnish, which is why the fluid carries an 8,000-hour service-life target in rotary screw and vacuum-pump applications under suitable operating conditions and oil analysis every 1,000 hours.
Can SIROCCO replace Sullair Sullube and other PAG compressor coolants?
Yes. SIROCCO is recommended as a replacement for other polyalkylene glycol (PAG) compressor oils and coolants, including Sullair Sullube. Because the ester base has a high level of solvency, drain the old fluid thoroughly, change the filters, and follow the equipment manufacturer's flush procedure before installing SIROCCO so residue does not load the new oil. SIROCCO is not a replacement for Sullair Sullube 24 KT silicone-based compressor oil.
Is SIROCCO suitable for reciprocating piston compressors?
SIROCCO is engineered for single- and multi-stage rotary screw compressors and single-stage vacuum pumps that specify an ISO 32 or ISO 46 grade. Reciprocating piston compressors typically call for a different lubricant family, so check the equipment service manual and the compressor oil guide before substituting.
Can synthetic motor oil be used in a rotary screw compressor instead?
No. Engine oils such as 5W-30 or 10W-30 contain detergent and dispersant additives built for combustion byproducts, not for the airborne moisture, oxidation, and varnish stress that rotary screw airends generate. SIROCCO is built specifically for compressor service, with a non-detergent additive system and demulsibility that releases water rather than emulsifying it.
How often should the oil be changed and analyzed?
Service life of up to 8,000 hours is possible, subject to operating conditions, maintenance practices, and monitoring with routine oil analysis every 1,000 hours. During the first 500 hours after a changeover, inspect filters and oil/air separators regularly and replace them as needed while residual deposits flush out of the system.
What seals, paints, plastics, and process gases are compatible?
SIROCCO works with high-nitrile Buna-N seals (>36% nitrile), Teflon, and Viton; epoxy, oil-resistant alkyd, and two-part urethane paints; and Celcon, Delrin, nylon, and PBT plastics. It is not compatible with low-nitrile Buna-N, neoprene, or SBR seals; acrylic or lacquer paints; or ABS, polycarbonate, polystyrene, or PVC plastics. Suitable process gases include nitrogen, hydrogen, helium, carbon monoxide, dry carbon dioxide, ethylene, methane, propane, butane, propylene, butylene, natural gas, benzene, butadiene, dry hydrogen sulfide, synthetic gas, and sulfur dioxide.
Can SIROCCO be used in refrigeration or breathing air compressors?
No. SIROCCO is not recommended for refrigeration compressors or breathing air compressors. Refrigeration units require lubricants matched to the refrigerant chemistry, and breathing air systems require fluids that meet specific air quality standards that SIROCCO does not claim.
