AMSOIL Engine Assembly Lube (EAL) is a high-viscosity, tackified assembly lube formulated to cling to bearings, lobes, lifters, rocker arms and other internal parts during the build, then dissolve into the motor oil at first fire. It is built for engine builders, race shops, restoration shops, and DIYers assembling or rebuilding four-stroke engines, including racing and performance engines.
Because building an engine can take from a few days to many months, an assembly lube has to stay on parts long after the assembler has left the bench. AMSOIL Engine Assembly Lube combines a high-viscosity base oil with a unique tackifier so the film stays in place on camshaft lobes, lifters, rocker arms, valve stems, oil-pump rotors and bearings through extended downtime between work sessions.
During initial startup, engines operate momentarily with little-to-no oil pressure, placing camshaft lobes, lifters, rocker arms, bearings and other critical parts at high risk of wear and failure. AMSOIL Engine Assembly Lube counters that exposure two ways. The tackified film resists wipe-off while the parts dry-spin during cranking, and a high concentration of anti-wear additives carries the load until the oil pump primes and the motor oil reaches the upper end.
An engine can sit in a garage partially assembled for long periods, allowing moisture and oxygen to form rust on exposed metal surfaces. AMSOIL Assembly Lube contains rust and corrosion inhibitors that protect freshly machined and freshly honed parts during inactivity. Builders who pause a project mid-assembly, or who pre-lube a long-block before storage, can rely on the same film for both wear protection and metal-surface protection.
Grease-based assembly lubes can increase the risk of oil port clogging if the grease is not fully consumed at initial startup, potentially causing engine failure. AMSOIL Engine Assembly Lube is designed to dissolve in oil, helping oil ports and feed galleries remain clean, and helping to eliminate deposit formation under the valve covers and in the oil pan. A short break-in run and the first oil change clear the residue without leaving a fresh build with restricted oiling.
The 4-fl.-oz. tube package allows for cleaner, more precise application compared to brush-on can products. A small bead places the lube exactly where it is needed on cam lobes, lifter faces, bearing shells, gear teeth and rocker tips, with less waste and less mess on the build surface. The tube format also keeps the lube sealed from dust and shop debris between work sessions.

A thin, even film is the goal; pooled lube can be displaced before it does any work.
Motor oil alone is not designed to cling to dry parts through an extended build or through the dry-spin phase at initial startup. AMSOIL Engine Assembly Lube uses a high-viscosity base oil and a tackifier to stay on the parts until the oil pump primes and motor oil reaches the upper end.
