AMSOIL ISO 32 100% Synthetic Anti-Wear Hydraulic Oil

AMSOIL ISO 32 100% Synthetic Anti-Wear Hydraulic Oil (AWH) is the ISO VG 32 grade of the AMSOIL Synthetic AW Series, formulated for high- and low-pressure gear, vane, and piston hydraulic systems in stationary and mobile equipment. Built on resilient synthetic base oils, a zinc-based anti-wear additive package, and an ultra-high viscosity index of 200, it fits hydraulic presses, machine tools, indoor mobile hydraulics, injection molders, snow plow hydraulics, dump trailer wet kits, and temperate-climate systems specifying an ISO VG 32 anti-wear fluid.

Anti-wear protection for high-pressure pumps, motors, and valves

The AW Series is fortified with zinc-based anti-wear additives engineered to protect pumps, motors, and valves from wear, scuffing, and surface fatigue under high-pressure load. The ISO 32 grade records a Four-Ball Wear scar of 0.45 mm in the Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172, 40 kg, 1,200 rpm, 75 C, 60 min), supporting approval against vane-pump-intensive specifications including Vickers M-2950-S and I-286-S, Denison HF-0, HF-1, HF-2, and Cincinnati Milacron P-68.

Ultra-high viscosity index for extreme-temperature operation

Conventional hydraulic oils carry waxes that thicken in cold weather and thin out as temperatures climb, costing pump efficiency and wear protection at the extremes. AMSOIL Synthetic AW Series ISO 32 contains no wax and posts a viscosity index of 200 (ASTM D2270), with kinematic viscosity of 7.4 cSt at 100 C and 33.1 cSt at 40 C (ASTM D445). The fluid stays fluid in sub-zero temperatures for nearly immediate flow at startup and resists thermal thinning in elevated heat to keep components protected across the full operating range.

Cold-weather flow and pressure-spike control

The ISO 32 grade reaches a pour point of -51 C (-60 F) in the ASTM D97 pour point test, so pumps, bearings, and valves receive lubrication at startup in cold-climate service. Reliable cold flow reduces pressure spikes that damage pumps and rupture hoses and seals, and cuts cavitation risk on the pump suction side in winter service.

Cleanliness, oxidation control, and water separation

Naturally resilient synthetic base oils resist chemical breakdown and varnish formation, while an anti-oxidant additive system fights acid formation in service. Copper Strip Corrosion (ASTM D130) rates 1A, and Rust Test (ASTM D665 A and B) passes against both fresh water and synthetic seawater. Demulsibility (ASTM D1401) reads 40/40/0 with a 10-minute separation, so the fluid sheds water rather than emulsifying, which protects pumps from water-induced wear.

Foam control, dielectric strength, and seal compatibility

Foam Test (ASTM D892) reads 0/0, 0/0, 0/0 across Sequences I, II, and III, and dielectric strength reaches 46.2 kVAC (ASTM D877). The fluid is compatible with standard hydraulic system seals, petroleum hydraulic oils, and most synthetic hydraulic oils, but not with phosphate-ester, silicone, or water-based fluids.

Recommended applications and service intervals

AMSOIL ISO 32 Synthetic AW Series is built for high- and low-pressure gear, vane, and piston stationary and mobile hydraulic systems that require any of the AW Series specifications, including the following approvals carried by the AWH (ISO 32) grade:

For optimum performance, the system should be thoroughly drained and, if warranted, cleaned prior to installation. The AW Series is compatible with petroleum and most synthetic hydraulic oils, but mixing dilutes the formula and shortens fluid life. Aftermarket hydraulic oil additives are not recommended, and drain intervals should be governed by oil analysis to maximize fluid life.

Customer reviews

  • Works better in cold weather

My dump trailer lifted easier in colder temps, pump strained less

  • Hydraulic oil

So far I am impressed . Test of time will be the deciding factor . This hydraulic oil fluid is totally different in appearance and viscosity from traditional Hydraulic oils. I have trusted Amsoil for 30 years and I use their oils in all my equipment , ( boat, mowers ,2 cycle etc.) If it uses oil it runs on Amsoil.

Frequently asked questions

What is ISO 32 hydraulic oil and what equipment uses it?

ISO VG 32 is a hydraulic oil viscosity grade defined by ASTM D2422, with a kinematic viscosity near 32 cSt at 40 C. ISO 32 is the most common AW grade in shop and indoor industrial service: hydraulic presses, machine tools, indoor mobile equipment, injection molders, snow plow hydraulics, dump trailer wet kits, and standard temperate-climate systems specifying an AW ISO VG 32 fluid.

What is the difference between ISO 32, ISO 46, and ISO 68 hydraulic oil?

The numbers refer to ISO viscosity grades at 40 C. ISO 32 is the lighter grade for cold-climate and indoor service, ISO 46 is the general-purpose grade for outdoor mobile and many industrial systems, and ISO 68 is the heavier grade for hot environments and worn pumps. The AMSOIL Synthetic AW Series offers AWG (ISO 22), AWH (ISO 32), and AWI (ISO 46). The right grade is the one specified by the equipment manufacturer for the operating temperature range. The ISO Hydraulic Oil Guide shows the full grade comparison.

What does "anti-wear" mean, and how is it different from R&O hydraulic oil?

An anti-wear (AW) hydraulic oil carries a zinc-based anti-wear additive package that protects pump surfaces under high-pressure boundary lubrication. R&O hydraulic oil carries only rust and oxidation inhibitors. AW fluids are required by most modern vane and piston pump approvals (Vickers I-286-S, Denison HF-2, Cincinnati Milacron P-68), while R&O fluids are still specified for some legacy turbine and silver-containing pump systems such as the PM-500 series.

Can AMSOIL ISO 32 AW Hydraulic Oil be mixed with conventional or other synthetic hydraulic oil?

The AW Series is compatible with petroleum and most synthetic hydraulic oils, so topping off in the field will not damage the system. Mixing dilutes the additive system and shortens fluid life, so a full drain and refill is preferred when switching fluids. The fluid is not compatible with phosphate-ester, silicone, or water-based hydraulic fluids.

Does AMSOIL ISO 32 AW Hydraulic Oil affect hydraulic system seals?

The AW Series is compatible with seals used in standard mineral-oil-based hydraulic equipment. For systems running heavily varnished or contaminated fluid, draining and, where warranted, flushing the reservoir before installation helps the new fluid deliver full cleanliness and oxidation-control performance.

What service intervals does AMSOIL ISO 32 AW Hydraulic Oil support?

The AW Series is designed for general-purpose use where extended drain intervals are desired, and for severe-duty operation where temperature extremes are encountered. Drain intervals vary with reservoir size, contamination control, duty cycle, and operating temperature, so oil analysis is the recommended way to track condition and maximize fluid life.

Is the AMSOIL warranty affected by running the AW Series in industrial equipment?

AMSOIL industrial products are backed by a Limited Warranty. Equipment OEM warranties are governed by the manufacturer's fluid specification, and the AWH (ISO 32) grade satisfies the typical AW ISO 32 specification called out by equipment manufacturers, including Denison HF-0/HF-1/HF-2, Vickers I-286-S, Cincinnati Milacron P-68, DIN 51524 Part 2, and Ford M6C-32.
