AMSOIL 10W-30 Heavy-Duty 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil is a fully synthetic API CK-4/SN heavy-duty diesel oil engineered for fleet trucks, work pickups, agricultural and construction equipment, and light-duty diesels that allow a 10W-30 viscosity. The thinner 10W-30 grade supports cold-start flow and fuel economy in mixed-duty fleets, while the boosted detergent and dispersant package delivers heavy-duty wear, soot, and deposit control on OEM-recommended drain intervals.
Heavy-duty wear protection in scuffing and ring-pack service
Wear on rings and cylinder liners drives oil consumption up and pulls horsepower and fuel economy down. Heavy-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil delivers 4X more wear protection than required by the Detroit Diesel DD13 Scuffing Test for specification DFS 93K222, based on third-party testing using the 10W-30 grade as worst-case representation. The same formula records a Four-Ball Wear Test scar of 0.46 mm (ASTM D4172), giving operators headroom against the high contact loads in modern high-output diesels.
Soot dispersancy and viscosity control
Advanced synthetic base oils paired with a heavy-duty detergent and dispersant package resist oxidation and the thickening effects of soot loading from EGR-equipped diesels. Suspended soot stays independent rather than clumping into the larger, wear-causing particles that grind on liners, lifters, and rings. The 10W-30 grade holds a kinematic viscosity of 12.0 cSt at 100 C (ASTM D445), a Total Base Number of 10.2 (ASTM D2896) to neutralize acidic combustion byproducts, and a sulfated ash content of 1.0 percent weight, keeping the formula compatible with DPF and SCR aftertreatment hardware.
Reduced oil consumption and lower volatility
Lower volatility means less evaporative oil consumption and less oil vapor passing into the combustion chamber. Heavy-Duty Synthetic Diesel Oil provides up to 66 percent less oil consumption than required by the API CK-4 standard in the Caterpillar 1N oil consumption test. NOACK volatility for the 10W-30 grade is 4.5 percent weight loss (ASTM D5800), which is well below the limits that typically drive top-off intervals in long-haul and severe-duty fleets.
Cold-start flow and high-temperature stability
The 10W-30 grade reaches a cold-cranking simulator viscosity of 5,591 cP at -25 C (ASTM D5293) and a pour point of -38 C (ASTM D97), with a viscosity index of 147. The synthetic chemistry resists thermal breakdown better than conventional diesel oils, flows dependably at cold start to reduce dry-start wear, and retains viscosity after high-temperature service to maintain hydrodynamic film strength under load.
