AMSOIL 5W-30 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil (DP5) is a light-duty synthetic diesel oil engineered for the smaller, efficient diesel engines fitted to American diesel pickups, vans, cars, and SUVs. The 5W-30 grade carries GM dexosD, GM dexos2, Chrysler MS-11106, Ford WSS-M2C214-B1, ACEA C2, ACEA C3, and ILSAC GF-6A approvals, making it an in-spec choice for vehicles whose owner manual calls for one of those specifications. This oil is not for use in applications that require an API CK-4, SP, or earlier API specification.
Camshaft and valvetrain wear protection
Wear on camshaft lobes can compromise valve timing and erode horsepower and fuel economy over time. The 5W-30 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil formula combines a strong synthetic base oil film with robust anti-wear additives to keep metal surfaces separated and reduce wear in metal-to-metal contact regions. Third-party testing in the OM646LA cam wear test using 0W-20 as a worst-case representation shows the formula delivers up to 6X more wear protection than required by a leading industry standard, helping maximize engine life and reduce maintenance cost and downtime. The Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172) records a 0.46 mm scar for the 5W-30 grade.
Viscosity control and soot dispersancy
Soot is a normal byproduct of diesel combustion. When soot agglomerates, it accelerates wear on liners, lifters, and rings and thickens the oil. Advanced synthetic base oils paired with a detergent and dispersant additive package keep soot particles suspended and independent, helping prevent the formation of larger, wear-causing particles. The 5W-30 grade holds a kinematic viscosity of 12.2 cSt at 100 C (ASTM D445), an HTHS viscosity of 3.52 cP (ASTM D5481), and a viscosity index of 169, supporting consistent oil pressure and load-carrying performance through long, hot runs.
Hot-temperature stability and reduced oil consumption
Improved heat and oxidation resistance compared to conventional diesel oils helps the formula maintain power, fuel efficiency, and clean engine operation. Lower volatility means less of the oil evaporates into the combustion chamber under high-temperature service: the 5W-30 grade records a NOACK Volatility of 8.3 percent weight loss (ASTM D5800), reducing oil consumption between drain intervals and limiting oil vapor passed into the combustion chamber. The formula is safe for diesel emissions systems.
Cold-start protection
The synthetic chemistry flows dependably in cold temperatures for easier startup and improved engine protection. The 5W-30 grade reaches a CCS viscosity of 6,158 cP at -30 C (ASTM D5293) and a pour point of -45 C (ASTM D97), an important advantage in northern climates where light-duty diesels are pressed into daily service through winter.
OEM specifications and emissions compatibility
The 5W-30 grade meets GM dexosD, GM dexos2, Chrysler MS-11106, Ford WSS-M2C214-B1, ACEA C2, ACEA C3, and ILSAC GF-6A. The chemistry holds sulfated ash to 0.80 weight percent and a total base number of 7.1, keeping the formula in the operating window for late-model emissions-equipped diesels while leaving headroom to neutralize combustion acids over the OEM service interval. The oil is compatible with other conventional and synthetic engine oils, but mixing reduces performance benefits and aftermarket oil additives are not recommended with AMSOIL synthetic diesel oils.

No. AMSOIL 5W-30 100% Synthetic Diesel Oil (DP5) is a light-duty diesel oil for engines that call for GM dexosD, dexos2, Chrysler MS-11106, Ford WSS-M2C214-B1, ACEA C2, ACEA C3, or ILSAC GF-6A. Signature Series Max-Duty 5W-30 Synthetic Diesel Oil (DHD) is a heavy-duty CK-4/SN diesel oil with a different additive package, drain-interval rating, and OEM approval set. The two oils are not interchangeable; match the correct viscosity and specification to the engine using the AMSOIL Diesel Oil Guide.
