AMSOIL 10W-60 FS 100% Synthetic European Motor Oil

AMSOIL 10W-60 FS 100% Synthetic European Motor Oil is built for high-performance European gasoline engines that the manufacturer specifies for an SAE 10W-60 viscosity. The formula pairs advanced synthetic base oils with a premium European-grade additive system that protects against shear in extreme conditions and keeps the engine clean across the long drain intervals these vehicles allow.

Shear-stable SAE 10W-60 viscosity for high-output engines

Engines specified for SAE 10W-60 typically run elevated bearing loads and sustained oil temperatures that demand a thicker hot operating viscosity than a 30 or 40 grade can provide. The 10W-60 formula uses shear-stable synthetic base oils paired with high-quality anti-wear additives so the oil holds its SAE 60 hot viscosity grade under load. Kinematic viscosity at 100 C measures 24.2 cSt per ASTM D445, and high-temperature high-shear viscosity at 150 C measures 6.6 cP per ASTM D5481, providing the oil film body that high-revving European engines depend on.

Outstanding protection at high operating temperatures

The 10W-60 FS chemistry is engineered for the high-temperature operating window typical of performance European gasoline engines. Excellent oxidation stability and heat resistance help the oil resist viscosity breakdown and acid formation through long, hot service. A flash point of 252 C and a fire point of 271 C per ASTM D92 reflect the high-temperature integrity of the base oil package, while a total base number of 10.2 supports neutralization of acidic combustion byproducts across the drain interval.

Turbocharger and supercharger protection

The robust composition shields engines from the high temperatures produced by turbochargers. Thermal stability resists deposit formation in the turbo bearing housing and helps cool the cartridge between drives. A viscosity index of 178 per ASTM D2270 keeps the oil flowing across a wide temperature range, and a low pour point of -33 C per ASTM D97 protects against oil starvation in subzero conditions, supporting a rapid return to appropriate oil pressure at startup.

Low volatility for reduced oil consumption

High-performance European engines are prone to elevated oil consumption when filled with oils that boil off in the ring belt. NOACK volatility on this 10W-60 grade measures 7.1 percent weight loss per ASTM D5800, an unusually low number for a 60-weight oil. Lower volatility means less oil vapor is pulled into the combustion chamber and PCV path, which reduces top-up between services, helps protect oxygen sensors, and keeps catalyst-fouling residues out of the exhaust stream.

Sludge, varnish, and detergent control

Detergent and dispersant chemistry is tuned for the deposit conditions of high-performance European engines that mix hard driving with daily commuting. Excellent oxidation stability, heat resistance, and detergency properties help prevent sludge and varnish deposits, reduce oil consumption, and support the long drain intervals recommended by European manufacturers.

API and ACEA approvals for the 10W-60 grade

AMSOIL 10W-60 FS European Motor Oil meets API SN and ACEA A3/B3 and A3/B4. Engines that require a different category, such as an ACEA C-series low-SAPS oil for a gasoline particulate filter or diesel particulate filter, should select a different AMSOIL European grade with the matching approval. The 10W-60 grade is designed for engines that specifically call for an SAE 60 hot viscosity at the API SN and ACEA A3 service level.

Recommended applications and service intervals

Use in gasoline vehicles that require any of the following specifications: API SN; ACEA A3/B3 or A3/B4. The 10W-60 grade is intended for high-performance European gasoline engines that the manufacturer specifies for an SAE 60 hot viscosity. Service-life guidance follows the vehicle manufacturer.

AMSOIL 10W-60 FS European Motor Oil is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils. Mixing with other oils will shorten the oil's life expectancy and reduce its performance benefits, so extended drain intervals are not supported where oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils. Pair the oil with a high-efficiency AMSOIL Oil Filter sized for the application and replace the filter at every oil change.

  • 20 Years

For 20 years I am using the Amsoil and will mot use anything else. I owned many (more than 20) different cars during these years and always used Amsoil. My mechanic wouldn’t believe I was really planning to change the oil every 10 or 25 k miles, but after changing it couple of times and seeing the condition of the used oil and my engine now he is not surprised anymore .

Frequently asked questions

What is 10W-60 motor oil used for?

10W-60 is an SAE J300 viscosity grade with a thicker hot operating viscosity than typical passenger-car oils. It is used in high-performance European gasoline engines that the manufacturer specifies for SAE 10W-60, often high-revving designs that run elevated bearing loads and sustained oil temperatures.

Is AMSOIL 10W-60 FS a true full synthetic?

Yes. AMSOIL 10W-60 FS is a 100 percent synthetic European motor oil formulated for engines that call for an SAE 10W-60 grade. The synthetic base oils and additive package are engineered for the high-temperature, high-shear conditions these engines produce.

Which industry specifications does the 10W-60 grade meet?

The 10W-60 (ETS) grade meets API SN and ACEA A3/B3 and A3/B4. Engines that require a different category, such as ACEA C2, C3, or C5, or a specific low-SAPS OEM approval, should use the matching AMSOIL European grade instead.

How long can AMSOIL 10W-60 FS stay in service?

Service life follows the extended drain intervals established by the vehicle manufacturer for SAE 10W-60. The oil filter should be changed at the time of every oil change. Owners running track days, sustained high-rpm operation, or other severe service should follow the manufacturer severe-service schedule.

Can a 5W-40 or 0W-40 be substituted for 10W-60?

Substituting a thinner SAE grade in an engine that the manufacturer specifies for SAE 10W-60 is not recommended. The 60-weight hot viscosity and high-temperature high-shear film thickness are deliberate design choices for these engines, and a thinner oil can affect bearing protection at sustained high load. Verify the correct viscosity for the vehicle with the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide.

Will using AMSOIL 10W-60 FS void a new vehicle warranty?

No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants does not void a new vehicle or equipment manufacturer warranty, and all AMSOIL lubricants and filters are covered by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty.
