AMSOIL 0W-8 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil
AMSOIL 0W-8 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil is a 100 percent synthetic gasoline engine oil engineered for the newest generation of hybrid passenger cars that specifically require an SAE 0W-8 viscosity grade. The formulation is licensed to the JASO GLV-1 fuel-economy specification and is purpose-built for the duty cycle of a hybrid internal combustion engine, where infrequent operation, repeated starts, and condensation place demands not seen in conventional drivetrains.
Built for the hybrid duty cycle
The internal combustion engine in a hybrid runs in short bursts, often at lower average temperatures than a conventional engine, with frequent transitions between electric and gasoline propulsion. AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid is engineered around that reality. The formulation pairs a 100 percent synthetic base with an additive system targeted at hybrid-specific stressors: condensation-driven corrosion, fuel dilution from cool-cylinder combustion events, and the need for instant oil pressure when the gasoline engine engages under high load.
Combats corrosion and water contamination
Hybrid engines often shut down before they reach a temperature high enough to fully evaporate condensation inside the crankcase, which can promote rust, accelerate wear, and reduce efficiency. AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid carries a boosted dose of corrosion inhibitors to protect ferrous parts during repeated cold-start cycles, plus an elevated level of dispersants that hold water in suspension so it can be carried out at the next oil change. The combined chemistry helps preserve cam, bearing, and ring-pack surfaces in engines that may sit idle for long stretches of a daily drive.
Protects against fuel dilution
Repeated start and stop cycles can leave cylinder walls cooler than in steady-state driving, raising the risk that unburnt gasoline washes past the rings and into the sump. Fuel dilution thins the oil, weakens the film at the bearings, and shortens additive life. AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid is engineered with robust viscosity control inside the SAE 0W-8 grade to defend the film strength of the oil even when small amounts of fuel make it into the crankcase, keeping critical engine surfaces protected between services.
Rapid cold-start flow at SAE 0W-8
0W-8 is the lowest-viscosity grade defined by SAE J300 and is specified for late-model hybrid engines designed with tight clearances and low-friction surfaces to maximize fuel economy. AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid is formulated for optimal low-temperature viscosity control, supporting rapid oil flow to cams, bearings, and valvetrain components the moment the gasoline engine engages. Independent third-party testing of AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil against Mobil 1 0W-20 Hybrid Full Synthetic in the industry-standard ASTM D5293 Cold Crank Simulator test required by SAE J300 produced up to 16 percent better low-temperature viscosity for the AMSOIL hybrid formulation, evidence of the cold-flow engineering that runs through the entire hybrid product family.
Fuel economy and clean emissions hardware
AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid is licensed by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization to the JASO GLV-1 specification, a fuel-economy category written specifically for ultra-low-viscosity oils used in modern fuel-efficient and hybrid engines. The formulation is also designed to be compatible with modern emissions control systems, helping keep the combustion chamber and exhaust system clean and supporting proper operation of the catalytic converter over its service life.
Recommended applications and service intervals
AMSOIL 0W-8 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil is intended for engines that specifically require an SAE 0W-8 grade meeting the JASO GLV-1 specification. The grade is most commonly called out for select late-model Toyota and Lexus hybrid passenger cars in the United States and Canada market. Confirm the required viscosity against the owner manual with the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide before changing oil.
Normal service: follow the original equipment manufacturer recommended drain interval printed in the owner manual or shown by the on-board oil-life monitor.
Severe service: follow the severe-service drain interval prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer for stop-and-go duty, short trips, heavy idling, or driving in dusty environments.
Modified engines, racing vehicles, and engines running alternative fuels such as E85, CNG, or propane are excluded from the hybrid product family recommendations.
Outside the United States and Canada, follow the vehicle manufacturer recommended drain interval for the local market.
AMSOIL Oil Filters are designed to protect the engine over a full drain interval and should be changed when the oil is changed. AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid is compatible with other conventional and synthetic motor oils, but mixing shortens oil life and reduces performance benefits, and aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils.

My go to oil for the Maverick
I am happy to use the Amsoil hybrid oil in our 2023 Maverick. I save .2 quarts every change so after 4 changes I will have to buy one less quart. I appreciate the free sticker which is displayed on my toolbox.
0W-8 is the lowest viscosity grade defined by SAE J300, the industry standard for engine oil viscosity classifications. The 0W rating describes very fast cold-start flow, and the 8 indicates a high-temperature operating viscosity thinner than any prior grade in the standard. Engines designed around 0W-8 use very tight clearances and low-friction surface treatments to capture fuel-economy gains, so substituting a heavier grade is not appropriate.
Which vehicles require SAE 0W-8?
SAE 0W-8 is specified for select late-model hybrid passenger cars, most commonly from Toyota and Lexus, where the owner manual explicitly calls out a 0W-8 viscosity grade. Most gasoline and hybrid engines do not require 0W-8. Verify the required grade against the owner manual or the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide before changing oil.
Is AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid API or JASO licensed?
AMSOIL 0W-8 100% Synthetic Hybrid Motor Oil is licensed by the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization to the JASO GLV-1 specification. JASO GLV-1 is the fuel-economy category written for the ultra-low-viscosity grades used in modern Japanese-OEM hybrid engines and is the appropriate licensing target for an SAE 0W-8 product.
How long can AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid stay in service?
For the 0W-8 grade, the recommended drain interval is the one printed in the vehicle owner manual or shown by the on-board oil-life monitor. The hybrid product family is built to support the manufacturer interval rather than an extended interval at this viscosity. AMSOIL Oil Filters are recommended to provide a full-interval filtration match.
Can a 0W-16 or 0W-20 be substituted for 0W-8?
Substituting a heavier grade in an engine that calls for 0W-8 is not recommended. The clearances and friction-control design of a 0W-8 engine are sized for that viscosity, and a heavier oil can reduce fuel economy and slow oil flow to cams and bearings at startup. Follow the owner manual viscosity, and use AMSOIL 0W-16 or 0W-20 Hybrid only in engines that specify those grades.
Does using AMSOIL 0W-8 Hybrid void a new vehicle warranty?
No. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants does not void a new vehicle or equipment manufacturer warranty, and all AMSOIL lubricants and filters are covered by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty.
Why does a hybrid need a different motor oil?
The internal combustion engine in a hybrid operates intermittently and often runs at lower average temperatures than a conventional engine, which raises the risk of condensation-driven corrosion and fuel dilution. A hybrid-specific formulation pairs strong corrosion and dispersant chemistry with low-temperature flow characteristics tuned for repeated starts, so the gasoline engine is protected the moment it engages.
