AMSOIL 10W-30 100% Synthetic Small-Engine Oil

AMSOIL 10W-30 100% Synthetic Small-Engine Oil is a shear-stable SAE 10W-30 formulation engineered for air-cooled, four-stroke power equipment that runs hot, runs long and rarely sees a forgiving duty cycle. The 10W-30 grade is built for zero-turn, riding, stand-on and push mowers, generators, pressure washers, log splitters, and similar gasoline equipment that calls for SAE 30 or 10W-30. Independent severe-service testing in a Kawasaki FX 730 V engine left pistons and rings virtually free of deposits and wear after 500 hours of operation.

Wear protection built for sustained load

Small-engine duty cycles rarely include a real cool-down. Cylinder walls, valvetrains and ring packs see continuous high temperatures with no break in load. The shear-stable, high-film-strength chemistry holds film thickness under prolonged stress instead of thinning out, keeping a measurable boundary layer between metal surfaces. The Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172B at 40 kg, 75 degrees C, 1200 rpm, one hour) returned a 0.45 mm wear scar on the 10W-30 grade, confirming the anti-wear additive package on a standard tribology bench.

Reduced oil consumption between top-offs

Air-cooled OPE engines burn oil. Heat boils light fractions out of conventional formulations and that loss shows up as topped-off quarts, fouled spark arrestors, and coked ring lands. Based on 125-hour lab tests of small engines using AMSOIL 10W-30 100% Synthetic Small-Engine Oil and three leading 10W-30 or SAE 30 motor oils, the AMSOIL formula reduced oil consumption 61 percent. NOACK Volatility (ASTM D5800) for the 10W-30 grade is 4.0 percent weight loss, well below the typical conventional benchmark, which supports lower top-up frequency on long mowing or generator runs.

Carbon, varnish and deposit control

Saturated synthetic base oils combined with potent antioxidant and detergent additives fight the carbon, varnish, and sludge formation that strangles power in OPE engines. Deposit control translates to ring freedom, intact compression and consistent throttle response across the season. Severe-service testing in a Kawasaki FX 730 V left pistons and rings virtually free of deposits and wear after 500 hours of operation, well past a typical commercial mowing year.

Cold-start flow and extreme-temperature stability

Snow blowers, generators and early-spring mower starts see hard cold pulls. The 10W-30 grade reports a Pour Point of minus 40 degrees C (minus 40 degrees F) per ASTM D97 and a Cold-Crank Simulator viscosity of 5,968 cP at minus 25 degrees C per ASTM D5293. The high natural viscosity index of 141 (ASTM D2270) and lack of paraffins keep the oil mobile through pickup screens at startup, so air-cooled engines reach lubrication faster on first crank and at top operating temperature.

JASO wet-clutch friendly, no friction modifiers

The formulation contains no friction modifiers and meets JASO MA/MA2 wet-clutch standards, so dual-purpose four-stroke equipment that shares an engine sump with a wet clutch stays within spec. Specifications met include API SL, SJ, SH, and SG for gasoline service and API CD and CF for off-road diesel service. That makes the 10W-30 a single-grade option across a mixed fleet of mowers, generators, and small off-road diesel equipment that calls for SAE 30 or 10W-30.

Commercial-grade engineering, not relabeled passenger-car oil

Many small-engine oils on retail shelves are simply relabeled automotive oils formulated for fuel economy rather than equipment durability. This formula is engineered specifically for the heat, dust and duty cycle of OPE service, with a Total Base Number of 8.5 to neutralize combustion acids over long run hours and a Flash Point of 246 degrees C (475 degrees F) per ASTM D92. Landscapers, contractors and homeowners running professional-grade equipment get an oil engineered for the way the engines actually run.

Recommended applications and service intervals

The 10W-30 grade fits zero-turn, riding, stand-on and push mowers, generators, pressure washers, log splitters, and similar four-stroke gasoline equipment that calls for SAE 30 or 10W-30 motor oil. Engine families covered include Briggs and Stratton, Honda, Kubota, Kawasaki, Kohler, Tecumseh, Robin, Onan, Wisconsin, Powertrain, Yanmar, Linamar, and Vanguard. The oil also covers off-road diesel engines and certain transmissions that require API CD or CF and JASO MA/MA2.

The formulation is compatible with other synthetic and conventional motor oils, but mixing shortens the life expectancy of AMSOIL motor oils and reduces performance benefits. Extended drain intervals are not supported where oils have been mixed, and aftermarket oil additives are not recommended.

Frequently asked questions

Can synthetic oil be used in a small engine?

Yes. Air-cooled four-stroke OPE engines tolerate full-synthetic oil and benefit from the higher film strength, lower volatility, and faster cold-start flow. The 10W-30 grade is approved for any engine that calls for SAE 30 or 10W-30 and is commonly run by professional landscapers in zero-turn, riding, and walk-behind mowers.

Does this oil meet Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Honda, or Kawasaki requirements?

The 10W-30 grade is engineered for engines that call for SAE 30 or 10W-30 motor oil, including those made by Briggs and Stratton, Honda, Kubota, Kawasaki, Kohler, Tecumseh, Robin, Onan, Wisconsin, Powertrain, Yanmar, Linamar, and Vanguard. The formulation also meets API SL, SJ, SH, and SG for gasoline service.

How long does the oil last between changes?

Service life runs up to 200 hours of operation or one year, whichever comes first, in normal and severe service. The interval is supported by severe-service test data showing pistons and rings virtually free of deposits and wear after 500 hours of operation in a Kawasaki FX 730 V engine.

Does using AMSOIL synthetic small-engine oil void the original equipment warranty?

No. The product is Warranty Secure and backed by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty as a high-performance replacement for equipment-manufacturer-branded oils. Owners running a qualified full-synthetic oil that meets the engine specification stay within the spirit of the OEM service requirement.

Is 10W-30 the right grade for a generator or pressure washer?

The 10W-30 grade fits generators, pressure washers, log splitters, and similar gasoline equipment that calls for SAE 30 or 10W-30. For winter-only equipment such as snowblowers that call for SAE 30 or 5W-30, the 5W-30 Synthetic Small-Engine Oil is the better cold-start match. For applications that require SAE 50, 10W-50 or 15W-50, the 15W-50 grade is the correct choice.

Can it be mixed with conventional motor oil already in the engine?

The formulation is compatible with conventional and other synthetic motor oils, but mixing shortens service life and reduces performance benefits. Extended drain intervals are not supported once oils are mixed, and aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with this oil.

What package sizes are available?

Available product codes are ASEQT-EA quart bottle, ASEQT-CA case of 12 quarts, ASE1G-EA gallon jug, ASE05-EA 5-gallon pail and ASE55-EA 55-gallon drum, all backed by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty.
