AMSOIL Extended-Life 0W-20 100% Synthetic Motor Oil
AMSOIL Extended-Life 0W-20 (XLZ) is a 100 percent synthetic gasoline engine oil built for road warriors who want fewer oil changes without giving up modern engine protection. The 0W-20 grade pairs cold-start flow with a boosted detergent and dispersant chemistry that supports a guaranteed drain interval up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, for high-mileage commuters, ride-share drivers, and fleet operators.
Twenty-thousand-mile guaranteed drain protection
Extended-Life 0W-20 is overbuilt for road warriors and confidently stays in service up to 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not operating under severe duty. A proprietary combination of advanced synthetic base oils and a boosted additive package promotes cleanliness and prolonged engine life across that interval. Severe service is capped at 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year and includes commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, frequent towing, hauling, plowing, and operation in dusty conditions.
Thirty-seven percent more cleaning power
Extended-Life delivers 37 percent more cleaning power than AMSOIL OE Synthetic Motor Oil, helping engines run smoother and longer across extended drain intervals. The boosted additive package neutralizes acids and resists sludge, varnish, corrosion, and carbon deposits that accumulate between changes. A Total Base Number of 10.7 (ASTM D2896) preserves alkaline reserve to control combustion acids during stop-and-go traffic and long highway pulls.
LSPI defense for turbo GDI engines
Modern turbocharged gasoline direct-injection engines are prone to low-speed pre-ignition, an event in which the fuel-air mixture ignites before the spark and can destroy pistons and connecting rods. Extended-Life 0W-20 features a dedicated LSPI-fighting chemistry and meets API SP, ILSAC GF-7A, and GM dexos1 Gen 3, current standards that include LSPI performance requirements for downsized turbo-GDI gasoline engines.
Resists oil breakdown in heat and cold
Some oils break down and significantly increase in viscosity after extended high-temperature operation, which can cause excessive oil consumption, engine deposits, accelerated wear, and difficult cold starts. Extended-Life 0W-20 maintains its viscosity under extreme conditions and posts a viscosity index of 168 (ASTM D2270), holding film strength as engine temperatures climb. A pour point of -42 C (ASTM D97) and a CCS viscosity of 5,207 cP at -35 C (ASTM D5293) keep the formula pumpable in winter, helping the oil reach top-end components quickly during cold starts.
Specifications and OEM approvals
Extended-Life 0W-20 meets API SQ (Resource Conserving), API SP, and API SN Plus, plus ILSAC GF-7A, GF-6A, and GF-5. OEM specifications include GM dexos1 Gen 3 (which supersedes dexos1 Gen 2 and GM 6094M), ACEA A1/B1, Chrysler MS-6395, and Ford WSS-M2C947-A, WSS-M2C947-B1, WSS-M2C962-A1, and WSS-M2C972-A1. Owners can confirm that one of these service categories or OEM approvals is listed for the engine before the oil is placed in service.
Recommended applications and service intervals
Use Extended-Life 0W-20 in late-model gasoline engines that call for any of the API, ILSAC, GM, ACEA, Chrysler, or Ford specifications listed above, including most current Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Mazda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, GM, and Chrysler or Stellantis vehicles factory-filled with 0W-20.
Normal service: up to 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not under severe service.
Severe service: up to 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year. Severe conditions include commercial or fleet vehicles, excessive idling, and frequent towing, hauling, plowing, or driving in dusty conditions.
Modified engines, racing vehicles, and engines running alternative fuels such as E85, CNG, or propane are excluded from extended drain recommendations.
Outside the United States and Canada, follow the vehicle manufacturer recommended drain interval.
AMSOIL Oil Filters are designed for extended drain intervals. With other-brand filters, the interval should not exceed 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year unless the vehicle manufacturer recommends a longer interval. The filter should always be changed when the oil is changed, and oil level should be checked regularly. Extended-Life 0W-20 is compatible with conventional and other synthetic motor oils, but mixing shortens oil life and reduces performance benefits, and extended drain intervals are not supported when oils have been mixed. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with Extended-Life 0W-20.

Simply the best.
This is only for the people who are planning to use Amsoil for the first time. The people who used it before don’t need to read any reviews.. they know it. This is the best oil by far and it does exactly as the company says. I am using Amsoil for 20 years now on all my cars and never ever had any issues changing my oil every 10 or 25 k miles as recommended.

Show me any better
I am using only Amsoil oil for the last 20 years and don’t know (or care) if there is anything better or even close to be equal to it.
Extended-Life is the AMSOIL XL-family 100 percent synthetic gasoline motor oil that sits between the entry-level OE Synthetic tier and the flagship Signature Series tier. The Extended-Life formulation supports guaranteed drain intervals up to 20,000 miles or one year in personal vehicles not under severe service, paired with LSPI defense and a boosted detergent system for late-model gasoline engines.
How does Extended-Life XL compare to AMSOIL Signature Series?
Both are 100 percent synthetic gasoline oils with LSPI defense and similar API and ILSAC credentials. Extended-Life is positioned for the high-mileage commuter who wants a guaranteed 20,000-mile interval at a price below Signature Series. Signature Series adds a longer service-life ceiling, a higher base number, and additional turbocharger protection testing. The 0W-20 Oil Guide compares the two families side by side.
Can Extended-Life 0W-20 really run 20,000 miles between changes?
Yes, in normal service. Extended-Life 0W-20 supports drain intervals up to 20,000 miles (32,000 km) or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not operating under severe service inside the United States and Canada. Severe service is capped at 12,000 miles (20,000 km) or one year, and AMSOIL Oil Filters are recommended to take full advantage of the long interval.
Which industry specifications does the 0W-20 grade meet?
Extended-Life 0W-20 meets API SQ (Resource Conserving), SP, and SN Plus, plus ILSAC GF-7A, GF-6A, and GF-5. OEM specifications include GM dexos1 Gen 3 (supersedes dexos1 Gen 2 and 6094M), ACEA A1/B1, Chrysler MS-6395, and Ford WSS-M2C947-A, WSS-M2C947-B1, WSS-M2C962-A1, and WSS-M2C972-A1.
