Wet-clutch friction control for confident shifts
Metric street bikes route engine oil through the transmission and wet clutch, so the lubricant has to support clutch friction without modifying it. High-temperature, high-shear (HTHS) viscosity measures 3.5 cP at 150°C (ASTM D4683), the load-bearing film range expected of a premium SAE 10W-30 motorcycle oil that has to lubricate gears in addition to engine internals. Heat tolerance, low volatility, and storage protection
NOACK volatility (ASTM D5800) measures 5.8 percent weight loss, meaning very little of the oil flashes off in the hottest parts of the engine. That helps control oil consumption between changes and reduces deposit formation on pistons and ring lands. Flash point is 244°C (471°F) and fire point is 260°C (500°F) per ASTM D92, both well above operating temperatures in a four-stroke metric engine. The pour point reaches -46°C (-51°F) per ASTM D97, supporting confident cold cranking on cool spring and fall mornings.
Many street bikes spend weeks parked between rides, and a parked engine still has to fight off acid corrosion and rust.
