AMSOIL DOMINATOR 10W-30 100% Synthetic Racing Oil

AMSOIL DOMINATOR 10W-30 Synthetic Racing Oil is a shear-stable, multi-viscosity race formula built for high-performance gasoline and diesel race engines that call for an SAE 30 grade. The 10W-30 viscosity is the most widely used DOMINATOR grade for circle-track, sprint, marine and modified small- and big-block builds running flat-tappet or roller cams. This race-only chemistry runs outside the API ZDDP cap, putting more zinc and phosphorus to work at the cam, lifter and ring interface than a street-spec motor oil can carry.

High-zinc anti-wear chemistry for flat-tappet and roller valvetrains

DOMINATOR 10W-30 is heavily fortified with zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives that load the cam lobes, lifter faces, rocker tips, wrist pins and ring pack with a sacrificial film before metal-on-metal contact can occur. Independent four-ball wear testing per ASTM D4172 (40 kg load, 150 C, 1,800 rpm, one hour) measures a 0.39 mm wear scar on the 10W-30 grade, well inside the protection range required by aggressive flat-tappet camshafts, high-spring-pressure roller cams and shock-loaded valvetrains common in oval-track and drag programs.

Shear stability that keeps a real SAE 30 film under load

Race-engine rpm and bearing shear can knock a poorly stabilized multi-grade out of grade within a few sessions, dropping film thickness in the rod and main bearings exactly when load is highest. DOMINATOR 10W-30 is engineered to hold an in-grade kinematic viscosity of 11.4 cSt at 100 C per ASTM D445 and a high-temperature, high-shear viscosity of 3.7 cP at 150 C per ASTM D5481, delivering straight-30 protection across long runs while still flowing like a 10W on the dyno cool-down.

Proprietary friction modifier for measurable horsepower

Lower internal friction means more crankshaft horsepower and cooler oil temperatures. DOMINATOR 10W-30 uses a proprietary friction modifier that reduces parasitic drag in the bearings, valvetrain, and timing drive. The same formulation runs in race engines campaigned by AMSOIL corporately sponsored racers including Bryce Menzies and Brad Lovell, with no spec change between the show-and-shine quart on the shelf and the quart that goes into a championship motor.

All-temperature flow for cold lay-down and hot endurance

A pour point of -42 C (-44 F) per ASTM D97 and a cold-crank simulator viscosity of 5,381 cP at -25 C per ASTM D5293 mean DOMINATOR 10W-30 lays down a protective film before oil pressure peaks on a cold fire-up. At the other end, a flash point of 228 C (442 F) and a fire point of 248 C (478 F) per ASTM D92 give thermal headroom for sustained high-rpm running. Viscosity index of 156 per ASTM D2270 keeps the operating film flat across a wide oil-temperature swing on long features.

Fuel and chemistry compatibility

DOMINATOR 10W-30 is compatible with leaded and unleaded gasoline, diesel, alcohol, nitromethane, and nitrous oxide. Synthetic base chemistry resists fuel dilution, varnish, and ring-zone deposits that build quickly when running rich or under heavy nitrous load. Total base number of 8.0 supports the acid-neutralization workload from combustion blow-by during long features and endurance races.

Recommended applications and service intervals

DOMINATOR 10W-30 is built for domestic and import high-performance racing engines that call for an SAE 30 viscosity. Typical builds and series include:

Race-engine oil service life is event- and chemistry-driven. When competing, the engine builder or vehicle owner is responsible for setting an appropriate oil change interval based on event, fuel, rpm range, blow-by, and oil analysis. DOMINATOR is not intended for long-term use in passenger cars and light trucks; engines that see daily-driver service should run an API-licensed AMSOIL Signature Series, XL, or OE motor oil instead. Oil analysis through Oil Analyzers Inc. (715-395-0222), a division of AMSOIL, supports interval and engine-health decisions between rebuilds. Pair DOMINATOR 10W-30 with an AMSOIL EaO or Ea15K race-rated oil filter and a clean break-in protocol; no aftermarket ZDDP, moly or "race additive" packages need to be mixed in.

  • Great oil

I love this oil . But it’s getting so expensive

  • Dominator racing oil.

I have been using Dominator Racing 15w50 since i built this engine in 2013. Approximately 400 hundred drag races . This spring removed and disassembled to freshen. Found almost zero wear.

Frequently asked questions

What is DOMINATOR 10W-30 Synthetic Racing Oil used for?

DOMINATOR 10W-30 is a race-only synthetic oil for high-performance gasoline and diesel race engines that call for an SAE 30 viscosity. Typical applications include asphalt and dirt late model, GM crate late model, modified small and big block, sprint car and marine race engines. It is not intended for long-term use in passenger cars and light trucks.

Is DOMINATOR 10W-30 safe for flat-tappet camshafts?

Yes. DOMINATOR 10W-30 is heavily fortified with zinc and phosphorus anti-wear additives to protect flat-tappet cam lobes, lifter faces and high-spring-pressure roller valvetrains under shock loading. A four-ball wear scar of 0.39 mm per ASTM D4172 quantifies the anti-wear performance.

Is DOMINATOR API-licensed for street use?

DOMINATOR is a race-only formulation and carries a ZDDP loading above the API ZDDP cap, so it is not API SP or GF-6A licensed. Engines that see daily-driver duty, hold an OEM warranty, or use catalysts and oxygen sensors that depend on a capped ZDDP level should run an API-licensed AMSOIL Signature Series, XL, or OE motor oil instead.

Can DOMINATOR 10W-30 be used with leaded race fuel, alcohol, or nitromethane?

Yes. DOMINATOR 10W-30 is compatible with leaded and unleaded gasoline, diesel, alcohol, nitromethane, and nitrous oxide. A total base number of 8.0 supports the acid-neutralization load when running rich, high-lead or alcohol fuels through long features.

How often should DOMINATOR 10W-30 be changed in a race engine?

Race-engine oil change interval is event-driven. The engine builder or vehicle owner sets the interval based on event length, rpm range, fuel type, blow-by, and oil analysis results. Oil Analyzers Inc. (715-395-0222), a division of AMSOIL, provides oil analysis services that support interval decisions between rebuilds.

Do anti-wear or ZDDP additives need to be added to DOMINATOR?

No. DOMINATOR 10W-30 is fully formulated with a balanced zinc, phosphorus, and friction-modifier package. Adding aftermarket ZDDP, moly or generic race-oil additives upsets the additive balance and is not necessary for flat-tappet protection.

Does using DOMINATOR void an AMSOIL Limited Warranty claim?

No. The AMSOIL Limited Warranty covers DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil for defects in materials and workmanship. Race-engine internal failures caused by tuning, fuel, mechanical damage or oil-starvation conditions are not covered, which is consistent with the warranty language printed for the broader AMSOIL synthetic lubricant line.
