AMSOIL DOMINATOR SAE 60 Synthetic Racing Oil is the heaviest grade in the DOMINATOR race-oil family, formulated for top fuel, pro-stock tractor pull, drag racing, and large-displacement diesel race engines that call for an SAE 60 viscosity. The grade targets nitromethane, alcohol, leaded race-gas, and nitrous-fed builds where cylinder pressures, blower loads and oil temperatures push past anything a street-spec motor oil is designed to handle. Race-only chemistry runs outside the API ZDDP cap, putting more zinc and phosphorus to work at the cam, lifter, ring and bearing interface than a daily-driver oil can carry.
Maximum hot-temperature film strength for high-cylinder-pressure builds
DOMINATOR SAE 60 carries the heaviest hydrodynamic film in the DOMINATOR family. Kinematic viscosity measures 25.0 cSt at 100 C per ASTM D445 and the high-temperature, high-shear viscosity is 7.7 cP at 150 C per ASTM D5481, the heaviest HTHS rating in the race-oil line. That delivers a thicker oil wedge between rod bearings, main bearings, and wrist pins when bearing loads spike under blower boost, nitrous hits, or top-fuel combustion pressure.
Heavy zinc and phosphorus anti-wear chemistry
Race-only chemistry lets DOMINATOR SAE 60 carry the zinc and phosphorus loading required by high-spring-pressure roller cams, flat-tappet valvetrains and shock-loaded rocker arms common to drag-race and tractor-pull builds. Independent four-ball wear testing per ASTM D4172 (40 kg load, 150 C, 1,800 rpm, one hour) measures a 0.38 mm wear scar on the SAE 60 grade, the lowest scar in the DOMINATOR family, confirming the load-carrying capacity of the additive package at race-oil temperatures.
Shear stability that keeps an SAE 60 film through long passes
Race-engine rpm and bearing shear can knock a softer multi-grade out of grade in a few sessions and drop oil pressure exactly when load is highest. DOMINATOR SAE 60 is engineered to resist viscosity loss under mechanical shear, holding the SAE 60 grade with a shear-stable synthetic base rather than a heavy package of polymer viscosity-index improvers that break down under extended high-rpm running.
Thermal stability for nitro, blower and large-displacement marine builds
A flash point of 246 C (475 F) and fire point of 280 C (536 F) per ASTM D92, paired with a viscosity index of 168 per ASTM D2270, give DOMINATOR SAE 60 the thermal headroom required by nitromethane top fuel motors, blown alcohol engines, and large-displacement marine race engines that spend long stretches at elevated oil temperatures. The synthetic base is engineered to resist oxidation, varnish, and thermal breakdown that knock conventional and lower-grade race oils out of spec late in a run.
Cold-flow protection for between-round restarts
A pour point of -38 C (-36 F) per ASTM D97 and a cold-crank simulator viscosity of 5,610 cP at -15 C per ASTM D5293 give DOMINATOR SAE 60 enough cold flow to lay down a protective film during between-round warm-ups and early-morning test sessions. That cold-flow profile is unusual for an SAE 60 grade and reduces dry-start wear on cams, lifters and rod bearings before oil pressure stabilizes.
Fuel and chemistry compatibility
DOMINATOR SAE 60 is compatible with leaded and unleaded gasoline, diesel, alcohol, nitromethane, and nitrous oxide. The synthetic chemistry resists fuel dilution, varnish, and ring-zone deposits that build quickly when a nitromethane or methanol engine is running rich. I have been using Dominator Racing 15w50 since i built this engine in 2013. Approximately 400 hundred drag races . This spring removed and disassembled to freshen. Found almost zero wear.

Why run an SAE 60 grade instead of a 15W-50 in a race engine?
SAE 60 carries the heaviest hydrodynamic film in the DOMINATOR family, with a kinematic viscosity of 25.0 cSt at 100 C and an HTHS viscosity of 7.7 cP at 150 C per ASTM D5481. Engines with very high cylinder pressures, blown alcohol or nitromethane combustion, heavy bearing loads, or wide bearing clearances cut for race duty often need that thicker film at race temperature. Engines built to 15W-50 clearances and pressures should stay on DOMINATOR 15W-50.
Is DOMINATOR SAE 60 compatible with nitromethane, alcohol, and nitrous oxide?
Yes. DOMINATOR SAE 60 is compatible with leaded and unleaded gasoline, diesel, alcohol, nitromethane, and nitrous oxide. Is DOMINATOR SAE 60 API-licensed for street use?

Do anti-wear or ZDDP additives need to be added to DOMINATOR SAE 60?
No. DOMINATOR SAE 60 is fully formulated with a balanced zinc, phosphorus, and friction-modifier package designed for the hottest, highest-pressure end of the race-oil range. Adding aftermarket ZDDP, moly or generic race-oil additives upsets the additive balance and is not necessary for valvetrain or bearing protection.
Does using DOMINATOR void an AMSOIL Limited Warranty claim?
No. The AMSOIL Limited Warranty covers DOMINATOR Synthetic Racing Oil for defects in materials and workmanship. Race-engine internal failures caused by tuning, fuel, mechanical damage or oil-starvation conditions are not covered, which is consistent with the warranty language printed for the broader AMSOIL synthetic lubricant line.
