Freedom Series Break-In Oil (FDBRK) is an SAE 30 break-in formulation developed with Fleece Performance Engineering and Freedom Racing Engines for new and freshly rebuilt high-performance and racing engines. The friction-modifier-free chemistry is built to seat piston rings quickly while the high zinc and phosphorus additive package protects camshafts, lifters, rockers, rods, and main bearings during the critical break-in period when wear rates are highest. Seats piston rings quickly
The primary goal during engine break-in is to seat the rings against the cylinder wall. Properly seated rings increase compression and maximum horsepower, reduce oil consumption, and prevent hot combustion gases from entering the crankcase. To achieve this, the oil must allow the correct level of controlled wear between the cylinder wall and ring interface while still protecting other critical engine parts. Insufficient break-in leaves sharp peaks on the cylinder wall that prevent rings from seating, and the deep valleys collect excess oil that burns during combustion. Too much wear glazes the cylinder when peaks roll over into the valleys and starve the wall of lubrication.
The friction-modifier-free formula in Freedom Series Break-In Oil allows sharp peaks on newly honed cylinder walls to partially flatten. The result is more surface area for rings to seat against, allowing the formation of a dynamic seal that increases compression, horsepower, and torque.
High-zinc protection for flat-tappet cams and lifters
New flat-tappet camshafts and lifters are not seasoned or broken in and must be heat-cycled to achieve proper hardness. During break-in these components are susceptible to accelerated wear because they are splash-lubricated, unlike pressure-lubricated parts elsewhere in the engine. Freedom Series Break-In Oil contains high levels of zinc and phosphorus (ZDDP) anti-wear additives designed to provide the protection these parts require during the critical break-in window. Four-Ball Wear performance is rated at a 0.43 mm scar (ASTM D4172, 40 kg, 75 C, 1200 rpm, 1 hour).

High-performance and racing engines often use aftermarket parts designed to increase torque and horsepower. The added stress can rupture the oil film responsible for preventing harmful metal-to-metal contact on rod and main bearings. SAE 30 grade with stable viscosity
Freedom Series Break-In Oil is an SAE 30 grade with a kinematic viscosity of 11.5 cSt at 100 C and 93 cSt at 40 C (ASTM D445), a viscosity index of 111 (ASTM D2270), a flash point of 230 C, 446 F, and a fire point of 250 C, 482 F (ASTM D92). The pour point is -36 C, -33 F (ASTM D97). This combination provides controlled break-in viscosity without the friction modifiers that can interfere with ring seating.
