Modern automatic transmissions are more complicated than their predecessors. Today's designs feature more gears, clutch packs, and narrow oil passageways that require a steady supply of high-quality fluid. Without it, wear and sludge formation can lead to reduced performance and even failure, requiring thousands of dollars in repairs. AMSOIL OE Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid provides passenger-car/light-truck transmissions excellent wear protection, sludge resistance and extreme-temperature performance throughout original equipment manufacturer (OEM)-recommended drain intervals.

AMSOIL OE Fuel-Efficient 100% Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid is the low-viscosity, fuel-efficient passenger-car and light-truck ATF for modern automatics that call for thinner fluid chemistries such as Ford MERCON LV, GM DEXRON VI, Toyota WS, Aisin-Warner AW-1, and the SP-IV family of Asian OEM specifications. The synthetic base oils, friction modifiers, and seal conditioners in this formulation deliver wear protection, varnish control, and cold-weather fluidity through the OEM-recommended drain interval.
Low-viscosity formulation built for FE-rated automatics
Vehicle manufacturers shifted to lower-viscosity automatic transmission fluid chemistries to support extra gears, tighter tolerances, narrower oil passageways, and stricter fuel-economy targets. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF posts a kinematic viscosity of 5.9 cSt at 100°C with a viscosity index of 149 (ASTM D445, ASTM D2270), placing it squarely in the FE-rated band that modern automatics specify. Coverage spans a wide list of low-viscosity OEM specifications including Aisin-Warner AW-1, Ford MERCON LV (including MERCON LV SP), GM DEXRON VI, Toyota WS, Honda/Acura DW-1 and Type 3.0, the Hyundai/Kia SP-IV family (SP-IV, SPH-IV, SP-IV-RR, NWS-9638, SP4-M), JASO 1A-LV, JWS 3324, Mazda ATF FZ, Mercedes-Benz 236.12, 236.14, 236.15 and 236.41, Mitsubishi SP-IV, ATF J3, ATF-PA and ATF-MA1, Nissan Matic-S and Matic-W, SAAB 93 165 147, Shell M-1375.4, M-1375.5, M-1375.6 and M-L12108, Volvo 31256774, VW/Audi G 055 005, G 055 162 and G 060 162, ZF S671 090 255, and the Chrysler MOPAR 68157995AA, SP-IV and 68218925AB families.
Outstanding wear protection for complex multi-speed transmissions
Modern automatics route torque through more clutch packs, smaller pistons, and tighter valve-body clearances than older 4-speed boxes did. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF is durable in both normal and severe service, resisting wear on the valve body, planetary gearsets, and clutch plates so today's complex transmissions can reach the long lives their designers targeted. Stable viscosity and a robust additive system help keep clutches clamping cleanly and gear contacts protected at high mainline pressures.
Thermal stability that resists varnish and sludge
Heat is the primary enemy of any automatic transmission. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF carries a flash point of 224°C / 435°F (ASTM D92) and a thermally stable synthetic base-oil package that guards against the breakdown reactions that produce varnish, sludge, and viscosity loss. Resisting varnish helps spool valves move freely inside the valve body so shift timing stays accurate over the life of the fluid, while resistance to heat-related evaporation keeps internal components cleaner between drains.
Reliable cold-weather flow and shift response
Cold thickening forces the transmission pump to fight the fluid before the vehicle moves and delays shift engagement during morning starts. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF posts a pour point of -48°C / -54°F (ASTM D97) and a Brookfield viscosity of 9,454 cP at -40°C (ASTM D2983), so it stays fluid and shifts crisp in deep-winter conditions. Lower cold-flow viscosity also reduces parasitic drag inside the gearset, supporting the fuel-efficiency benefits the lower-viscosity formulation is engineered for.
Friction modifiers for smooth, shudder-free shifts
Modern 6, 8, 9, and 10-speed automatics rely on a precisely tuned friction profile so that locking torque converters and electronically controlled clutches can engage without slip-stick. The friction-modifier package in OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF promotes fast, smooth clutch engagement and torque-converter lockup, helping drivers experience clean shift quality and consistent torque transfer across the rev range.
Seal conditioners that help prevent leaks
Elastomer seals dry, harden, and shrink as transmissions age, which is one of the most common reasons for slow leaks at the pan, axle seals, and torque-converter housing. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF is formulated with seal conditioners that help keep elastomers pliable, reducing the risk of new leaks after a fluid change and protecting the seals between service intervals.
Recommended applications and service intervals
OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF is recommended for any passenger-car or light-truck automatic transmission that calls for one of the low-viscosity, FE-rated OEM specifications listed above. The drain interval follows the vehicle manufacturer's published recommendation for the transmission, expressed as a normal-service mileage and a severe-service mileage in the owner's manual or service guide.
Normal service: change at the OEM-published interval for the transmission. Shorten the interval when severe-service conditions apply.
Severe service (towing, hilly terrain, sustained high loads, frequent stop-and-go traffic): follow the OEM severe-service interval, which is typically shorter than normal service.
Not for use with continuously variable transmissions (CVT) or Ford Type F applications. Use a CVT-specific synthetic fluid for CVT gearboxes and a Type F fluid for legacy Ford automatics that require it.
Outside the United States and Canada, confirm application match against the regional OEM specification table before service.
Pair the fluid change with a fresh transmission filter and a clean pan or sump where the design allows it. OE Fuel-Efficient Synthetic ATF is fully compatible with other quality automatic transmission fluids of the same OEM grade for top-off use, but a complete drain-and-fill is the preferred way to capture the full benefit of the formulation. Aftermarket friction modifiers and shift-improvement additives are not required and should not be added unless the vehicle manufacturer specifically calls for them.

So far, so good!
Bought this based on all the great recommendations and after confirming it would be compatible with what my 2017 Pacifica Touring L had already been running. Did a drain and fill of about 3.5 qts and have had no issues. After about 1k miles the shifting has smoothed out and there has been no compatibility issues so far. The transmission seems to be running a little cooler even. I plan to do another drain and fill in another 10k miles so I'll have mostly newer fluid going forward. Very happy and will be using again!
