AMSOIL SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid (CTG) is the light-viscosity grade in the AMSOIL Powershift family, built for off-road powershift transmissions, wet brakes, final drives and hydraulic systems in heavy equipment running in cold climates or arctic conditions. The 100% synthetic formulation is engineered around the Caterpillar TO-4 frictional and wear requirements and pairs that performance with a pour point that supports cold-start flow and dependable low-temperature service.
Stable friction for clutch and wet-brake control
SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid is compatible with common metallic and non-metallic friction materials. Stable frictional characteristics help eliminate excessive brake noise and vibration in oil-immersed brake systems, and non-slip friction properties are designed to prevent clutch slippage that can cause glazing, friction-surface deposits, and material degradation. Calibrated to the Caterpillar TO-4 friction requirements, the fluid delivers responsive yet smooth clutch engagement and consistent power transmission through clutches and synchronizers across the full duty cycle.
Shear-stable wear protection under sustained torque
SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid meets the wear and frictional requirements of the Caterpillar TO-4 specification and is formulated for superior shear stability so the 10W grade stays in grade through its service life. That stability supports long-term protection against gear, bearing and clutch wear in equipment subjected to high, sustained torque, such as dozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, and mining machines. Four-Ball Wear Test results for the CTG grade are 0.35 mm scar diameter (ASTM D4172B, 40 kg, 75 degrees Celsius, 1,200 rpm, one hour).
Cold-flow performance for arctic and winter operation
The 10W viscosity is the cold-climate option in the Powershift family. SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid carries a pour point of minus 48 degrees Celsius (minus 54 degrees Fahrenheit) per ASTM D97 and a viscosity index of 132 per ASTM D2270, so the fluid flows readily in cold transmissions, hydraulic systems and final drives for dependable startup and post-startup protection.
High-temperature stability for hot-running equipment
In high temperatures, the synthetic base chemistry resists oxidation and thermal breakdown that drive varnish, sludge and deposit formation in heavily loaded powershift transmissions. The 10W grade functions as a heat-transfer fluid and helps cool hot-running equipment, and a Flash Point of 248 degrees Celsius (478 degrees Fahrenheit) per ASTM D92 reflects the resistance of the formulation to high-temperature volatility losses.
Corrosion, rust and foam control during use and storage
SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid protects yellow-metal components from copper corrosion and steel components from rust, including periods of equipment storage between shifts or seasons. The additive package controls foam in service so loaded components stay separated by lubricant film and do not run through dry contact under high torque.

CD-50 manual transmission service interval published with the Powershift family is up to 60,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, in CD-50 manual transmission applications or as specified by the OEM. CD-50 service applies to the SAE 50 grade in the Powershift line, not to this 10W grade.
SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid is fully compatible with other TO-4 fluids used in powershift applications. To install, drain the existing fluid, replace the filter if equipped and refill with the appropriate viscosity of AMSOIL Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid. Aftermarket additives are not required.

I have been using this product in the rear end of my 1971 Flextrack Nodwell snow cat for over ten years. It performs well with wet brakes and keeps the gear box well protected and cool.

Never disappoints
Was doing a clutch on a Eaton 13 speed and decided to replace the oil not knowing the status of the oil that was in the transmission. Oil looked fine but replaced anyway and so glad I did because it actually shifts so much smoother now. I love amsoil products and they will never let you down!
What is a Caterpillar TO-4 fluid and how is it different from automatic transmission fluid?
Caterpillar TO-4 is an off-highway powershift transmission and drivetrain fluid specification covering frictional performance, wear protection and oxidation control for transmissions, wet brakes, final drives and hydraulic systems in heavy equipment. It is not a Dexron or Mercon automatic transmission fluid spec, and TO-4 fluids are not a substitute for ATF in highway passenger vehicles. SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid meets the TO-4 requirements in the 10W viscosity grade.
When should the SAE 10W grade be chosen instead of SAE 30 or SAE 50 Powershift Transmission Fluid?

Can SAE 10W Synthetic Powershift Transmission Fluid be mixed with other TO-4 fluids?
The fluid is fully compatible with other TO-4 fluids used in powershift applications. Field top-offs with a comparable TO-4 fluid do not damage the lubricant, although a complete drain and refill is preferred to realize the full performance of the synthetic formulation. Replace the filter, if equipped, during a fluid change.
