AMSOIL 100% Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid (MVT) is a dedicated synthetic gear lubricant for V-Twin motorcycles that run a separate transmission case, including Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and pre-2013 Indian models. The formula is engineered around quiet operation, shear-stable film strength, and finely tuned frictional properties for crisp shifts, making it a high-performance replacement for vehicle manufacturer-branded transmission fluid in any V-Twin gearbox that does not share a sump with the engine.
Quiet operation and reduced gear noise
Precise frictional properties damp the thunk that often accompanies first-gear engagement and quiet the constant gear noise that comes through a V-Twin transmission case at cruise. Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid forms a durable oil film on bearings and gears so meshing teeth ride on a continuous lubricant layer, helping to reduce loud shifts and gearbox whine across the rev range. Riders gain a calmer driveline without giving up the positive mechanical feel that V-Twin owners expect when rolling on the throttle.
Gear and bearing wear protection
Extreme pressures between gear teeth can shear inferior transmission fluids, reducing in-service viscosity and compromising wear protection. Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid resists viscosity loss due to shear and withstands extreme heat for excellent wear protection. Robust synthetic molecules provide the film strength needed to defend against damage from shock loading, while extreme-pressure additives deliver additional protection at the gear-tooth interface. Independent testing on the Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D4172 at 40 kgf, 150 C, 1800 rpm, one hour) records a 0.55 mm wear scar.
Smooth shifts and predictable engagement
Finely tuned viscometrics and frictional properties deliver smooth shifts, helping riders avoid missed shifts for crisp acceleration through each gear. The formula provides confidence that the transmission will respond as intended whether the bike is crawling through low-speed traffic, accelerating onto the highway, or downshifting into a corner.
Hot and cold operating range
Synthetic base oils give Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid a wide useful temperature window. The formula carries a viscosity index of 127 (ASTM D2270), a flash point of 228 C / 442 F (ASTM D92), and a fire point of 242 C / 468 F (ASTM D92), so working viscosity stays in range when transmission case temperatures climb during stop-and-go traffic or long stretches in summer heat. A pour point of -40 C / -40 F (ASTM D97) keeps the fluid mobile for quick lubrication during cold starts in cool-season riding. NOACK volatility of 8.43 percent (ASTM D5800) and a 0/0/0 foam result on ASTM D892 Sequences I, II, and III reflect a formulation built to stay low-evaporation and air-release stable through extended service.
Dedicated transmission fluid for separate-sump V-Twins
Harley-Davidson Big Twin, Softail, Touring, Dyna, and Sportster platforms typically run three separate lubricants for the engine crankcase, primary chaincase, and transmission. Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid is built specifically for the transmission case in those bikes, not for the engine and not for the primary chaincase. Owners who prefer a dedicated transmission lubricant over a multi-use fluid get a formulation tuned for gear-only service rather than the compromises required by a shared-sump fluid that also has to live with a wet clutch pack.
Recommended applications and service intervals
Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid (MVT) is engineered for the transmission case in V-Twin motorcycles that do not share a sump with the engine. The fluid covers the following service categories:
Engineered for Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and pre-2013 Indian motorcycles with a separate transmission case.
Use in the transmission case only. Not for the primary chaincase, not for the engine crankcase. V-Twin primary chaincases call for a separate AMSOIL V-Twin Primary Fluid, and V-Twin engines call for a dedicated AMSOIL V-Twin Motor Oil.
Standard service life: up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first.
Verify the application against the bike's service manual and the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide before changing fluid.
The formula is compatible with the conventional and synthetic V-Twin transmission fluids it replaces, but mixing dilutes the additive package and can shorten the achievable service life. Aftermarket additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants. Drain plugs and gaskets should be inspected at every fluid change, and the transmission should be warmed to operating temperature before draining so the case flushes completely.

Order AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid
AMSOIL 100% Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid is available in a single quart bottle (MVTQT-EA) and a case of 12 quarts (MVTQT-CA). The fluid is Warranty Secure, and using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants does not void a new motorcycle warranty; the product is also backed by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty (G1363). Match the right Harley-Davidson transmission fluid with the Best Oil for Harley-Davidson guide and match the right product in the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide, then order AMSOIL 100% Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid.
Your transmission fluid needs to have the weights added example 75/90 or what ever it is actually. To most Harley Davidson motorcycle riders it's important for comparison for assurance that it will be of the HD level in weights. It would be a selling point it is for me at least same for Primary fluid .

Awesome product gives you smooth shifts, Highly recommend
Can MVT replace Harley-Davidson Formula+ in the transmission?
Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid is engineered as a high-performance replacement for vehicle manufacturer-branded transmission fluid in V-Twin transmissions that do not share a sump with the engine, including Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and pre-2013 Indian motorcycles. It is a dedicated transmission fluid and is not intended as a multi-use fluid for the primary chaincase. Bikes that run separate transmission and primary fluids should pair MVT in the transmission with AMSOIL V-Twin Primary Fluid in the chaincase.
Will switching to AMSOIL transmission fluid void a new Harley-Davidson warranty?
No. Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid is Warranty Secure and keeps the factory warranty intact. Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants does not void a new motorcycle warranty, and the product is backed by the AMSOIL Limited Warranty (G1363).
How often should the transmission fluid be changed?
Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid is recommended for up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. Bikes that see heavy stop-and-go traffic, sustained high-temperature riding, or loaded touring service should still respect the one-year cap regardless of mileage on the fluid.
Can MVT be used in the primary chaincase or the engine?
No. MVT is a dedicated transmission fluid for the transmission case only. The primary chaincase on a Harley-Davidson Big Twin, Softail, Touring, Dyna, or Sportster calls for a separate AMSOIL V-Twin Primary Fluid, and the engine crankcase calls for an AMSOIL V-Twin Motor Oil. Three different cases call for three different lubricants on a separate-sump V-Twin.
What viscosity is AMSOIL Synthetic V-Twin Transmission Fluid?
The fluid carries a kinematic viscosity of 20.7 cSt at 100 C and 190.3 cSt at 40 C (ASTM D445) with a viscosity index of 127 (ASTM D2270). The formulation is engineered to the viscometric and frictional targets required by Harley-Davidson, Triumph, and pre-2013 Indian transmissions rather than around a single SAE gear-oil classification.
Which Harley-Davidson models is the fluid built for?
MVT is engineered for V-Twin motorcycles with a separate transmission case, which on the Harley-Davidson side includes Big Twin, Softail, Touring, Dyna, and Sportster platforms, along with Trike models that share those drivetrains. Triumph and pre-2013 Indian V-Twins with a separate transmission case are also covered. Confirm the exact application and refill capacity in the bike's service manual or the AMSOIL Vehicle Lookup Guide before ordering.
