AMSOIL Bypass Oil Filter

The AMSOIL Bypass Oil Filter is the EaBP-coded spin-on bypass filter element used inside AMSOIL Single-Remote, Dual-Remote, Dual-Gard, and Heavy-Duty Bypass Systems. It works in parallel with the engine's full-flow filter and removes soot particles down to two microns and larger, providing a level of contaminant removal that full-flow filters alone cannot reach. The line is sold as four sizes: EABP90, EABP100, EABP110, and EABP120.

How partial-flow bypass filtration works

The Bypass Oil Filter operates on a partial-flow basis, drawing less than ten percent of the engine's oil-pump flow at any moment. That smaller flow rate lets the filter use a much denser, higher-efficiency media than a full-flow filter, which has to keep up with the entire pump output. Over the course of an hour, an AMSOIL bypass system typically filters all of the oil in the system several times, so the engine continuously sees analytically clean oil while the full-flow filter handles the moment-to-moment lubrication load.

Removes soot and small particles full-flow filters miss

The high-efficiency element captures soot agglomerations and other small wear-causing contaminants down to two microns and larger. Soot is a particular concern in modern diesel engines, where it agglomerates into abrasive clusters that accelerate ring, liner, and bearing wear. By removing soot at the source, the EaBP element keeps the lubricant cleaner across the drain interval and helps protect injector pumps, turbocharger bearings, and oil cooler passages from premature deposit buildup.

Marine-grade construction

Each Bypass Oil Filter is built with a marine powder-coated exterior and an anti-corrosion coated baseplate so the housing tolerates engine bay heat, salt, and humidity over a multi-year service interval. The element uses a proprietary high-efficiency media, an HNBR sealing gasket, and a silicone anti-drain valve, all of which are sized for the long service-life ratings published for each EABP code.

What is the difference between a bypass filter and a full-flow filter?

A full-flow filter handles 100 percent of the oil-pump output and has to balance efficiency against flow restriction, which limits how dense its media can be. A bypass filter handles less than ten percent of the pump output through a much denser media, capturing particles a full-flow filter cannot. The two filters work together: the full-flow filter delivers immediate protection while the bypass filter polishes the same oil over time.

Does adding a bypass filter extend drain intervals?

It can, when paired with AMSOIL synthetic motor oil and used oil analysis. Removing soot, water, and small particles slows the rate at which additives in the oil are consumed and slows the rise in viscosity that normally signals the end of useful service life. Many fleets running EaBP bypass elements with AMSOIL synthetic oil and quarterly oil analysis run extended intervals well past the OEM-recommended schedule with cleaner used-oil reports.

Which EABP element fits a particular bypass system?

EABP90 is the standard single-element size for AMSOIL Single-Remote and Dual-Remote systems on light-duty applications. EABP100 and EABP110 are the same form factor in larger sizes for bigger sumps. EABP120 is the dedicated element for the BMK30 Heavy-Duty Bypass System used on Class 8 trucks and equipment. The BMK22 Dual-Gard system runs two of EABP90, EABP100, or EABP110.

How often should the bypass element be changed?

Element life depends on the size and the duty cycle. EABP90 is rated for 60,000 miles, 600 hours, or two years; EABP100 for 70,000 miles, 800 hours, or two years; EABP110 for 80,000 miles, 1,200 hours, or two years; and EABP120 for 120,000 miles, 1,800 hours, or one year. Replace at the first limit reached, and use oil analysis to confirm the interval is appropriate for the engine and duty cycle.

Will adding a bypass system void a new vehicle warranty?

No. Adding an AMSOIL Bypass System and bypass filter does not void a new vehicle warranty when the system is installed correctly and does not modify the engine itself. The AMSOIL Bypass Filter is also backed separately by the AMSOIL Limited Liability Warranty.

Does the bypass filter replace the full-flow filter?

No. The bypass filter works in parallel with the engine's standard full-flow oil filter, not in place of it. The full-flow filter still handles the immediate moment-to-moment protection the bearings need, while the bypass element polishes the oil between full-flow passes.
