AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic High-Mileage Motor Oil is engineered for gasoline vehicles with more than 75,000 miles on the odometer. The 0W-20 grade fits engines that originally specified, or have been updated to, a 0W-20 viscosity. The formula targets the failure modes that show up as cars age: deposit buildup, oil consumption, viscosity loss, and seal weeping. It is API-licensed and carries the AMSOIL Limited Warranty.
Engine cleanliness for engines with mileage on the clock
Older engines accumulate sludge and varnish that restrict oil control rings, lifters, and VVT actuators. AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic High-Mileage Motor Oil uses a boosted detergent and dispersant package to lift those deposits and keep them in suspension until the next drain. In a modified Sequence VH test (ASTM D8256), the formula reduced total engine sludge by 67 percent after switching from a worn-in oil charge.

Worn cylinders and tired piston rings raise oil consumption between changes, and a thin or volatile base oil makes the problem worse. AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic High-Mileage Motor Oil is formulated with thermally stable synthetic base stocks and posts a 10.1 percent NOACK volatility (ASTM D5800), which limits how much of the lighter ends boil off into the PCV system at sustained high oil temperatures.
Durable viscosity also helps a high-mileage engine maintain compression. The 0W-20 grade carries a kinematic viscosity of 8.6 cSt at 100 degrees Celsius (ASTM D445), a viscosity index of 173 (ASTM D2270), and a high-temperature, high-shear viscosity of 2.76 cP (ASTM D5481), which keeps a continuous film between piston rings and cylinder walls during sustained high-load operation rather than shearing back to a thinner grade.
Cold-start flow at sub-zero temperatures
AMSOIL 0W-20 100% Synthetic High-Mileage Motor Oil posts a cold-cranking simulator viscosity of 5,773 cP at minus 35 degrees Celsius (ASTM D5293) and a pour point of minus 45 degrees Celsius (ASTM D97), so the oil pumps and reaches upper-end bearings, lifters, and timing chain guides quickly after a long cold soak. That matters more on an aging engine where bearing clearances have opened up and dry-start wear adds up faster than on a new motor.

Normal service: up to 12,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first, in personal vehicles not operating under severe service.
Severe service: follow the severe-service drain interval prescribed by the vehicle manufacturer in the owner manual.
Modified, racing, or alternative-fuel applications and equipment outside the United States and Canada are outside the scope of this product family.
Using AMSOIL synthetic lubricants or practicing extended drain intervals does not void a new vehicle or equipment manufacturer warranty.
The HM020 0W-20 grade is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils, but mixing shortens service life and reduces performance benefits, so extended drain intervals are not supported on a mixed charge. Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended with AMSOIL synthetic motor oils. Pair the oil change with a fresh AMSOIL Oil Filter or an OEM-equivalent filter rated for the planned drain interval.

Is AMSOIL 0W-20 High-Mileage Motor Oil safe for engines that called for a 5W-20 from the factory?
